Peerless 830985 2-1/2" Full Range Woofer

Tymphany/Peerless full range drivers set the standard for quality audio in products including flat panel televisions and sound bars, MP3 and cell phone docking stations, and multimedia PCs. With their high power handling, smooth, even dispersion, and low distortion, the Peerless 2-1/2" full range drivers can be paired with the Tymphany LAT250 for great bass performance. A neodymium motor structure and double-venting system keeps dynamic range intact, as the transducer can handle more power and dissipate excess heat efficiently. An anodized aluminum dome provides superior sound dispersion and off-axis response. An inverted semi-progressive surround reduces distortion, especially at high output through long excursion. The driver's direct connected dome dust cap (attached to the magnet system voice coil) improves dispersion at high frequencies, providing superior sound at the higher frequencies. The inserted copper cap on the pole piece ensures control of the system impedance, thereby extending the upper frequency range.

Peerless 830985 2-1/2" Full Range Woofer
Peerless 830985 2-1/2" Full Range Woofer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good midrange.I am using this as a midrange replacement in my BMW rear speaker setup. Chosen for the plastic housing and flange, I could modify it to fit in the stock enclosure. Sound is very good, natural and open sounding, a very responsive speaker with great punch, super quick. Treble is rolled off pretty low, so don't expect a lot of high end, but this keeps it from sounding harsh, I have tweeters up front to fill in so not a problem in my setup. I only have about 2hrs of runtime on them so they may open up a bit with time. Good construction, no visible signs of defects. Overall, really pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tiny Speaker Exceeds ExpectationsThis little driver really surprised me. It's range was much better than expected-the low end was much more prominent than expected for its small size and yet it still managed the high notes with great detail. It does get a little bright in the upper mids into the highs at times, but overall does exceptionally well for a single cone full range driver. Puts out a lot more sound than I expected also, very loud for what it is. Stays clear unless you really push it.Very well built, interesting venting on the voice coil. Has held up perfectly in a small powered project I purchased it for. Matches perfectly with the (also tiny) 15W x 2 Dayton Amp board. They may seem a little pricy, but I am glad I bought them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bose Sounddock replacement!I got a portable Bose sounddock for cheap at a yard sale with a buzzing right woofer, I temporarily fixed the right woofer but I decided to replace both of them at the same time. These drivers fit perfectly apart from the mouning holes, you have to drill out or cut out the mounting tabs in the corners to make them fit (word of warning, the plastic is quite brittle to process with caution). I compared the sound to the original paper drivers and these peerless drivers sound a lot cleaner and the bass is a lot punchier. They are a bit bright at times but that to me just makes the dock come alive! They have little to no distortion at high volumes. I would definitely recommend these as replacements to anyone witha bad dock!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what an aluminum driver shouldIt's very bright, just like you'd expect. Don't buy an aluminum driver if you can't handle the brightness, you'll be sorely disappointed. That being said, with the proper EQ this speaker sounds so pure and clear it's amazing. I have 31 bands of electronic EQ per speaker so I wasn't worried about the ring outs that characterize stiff cones in the 1k to 4k range. All in all, with EQ -> get a rigid cone like this, without EQ -> too bright, go with paper or other (not aluminum).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not too bad of a driver.Low end is clean and high end also but the mid range is a little clouded with volume. Has a tendency to peak in the 1k-4k range. If you have an EQ to fix this then it's all good. Going to try another set in 8ohm and see if that's the difference to tone them down a bit.

Peerless 830985 2-1/2" Full Range Woofer

I have a Bose Soundlink wireless music system that look like this ( http://worldwide.bose.com/productsupport/en_us/web/soundlink/page.html ), I was wondering if I purchase this peerless woofer will this work on my Soundlink?

Asked by: Dat Bui
We do not have a cross reference available for this type of thing. You will have to compare the dimensions of the existing driver with this. As long as the dimensions and impedance match up it should work fine.

I want to use these for a portable, battery powered speaker set up running off a PAM8403.  How do things change from the box design listed if I want to use 2 or 4 in the same enclosure.  Or should I make separate ones with given dimensions?

Asked by: Fabio Dynamite Johnson
The enclosure volume doubles with two drivers or quadruples with four, as does the number of ports. They do not need to be in their own enclosures, but bracing is recommended.

Bass quality is very important to me : Will this speaker deliver deep bass ? Aren't they too bright ?

Asked by: int7
Deep bass, no. Almost all speakers that are smaller than about 5-6 inches in diameter will not deliver deep bass, that is, bass that reaches into the 40's or lower. This driver has an Fs of over 100 Hz, so the lowest useable frequency range you will likely get from it will be around 80 Hz, which will only really be possible from a near field listening position at lower volume levels. Whether it is too bright is subjective.

Recommended enclosure? Will it, two of those, work inside 7x4x2 inch case. As a sidenote, what parameters suggest compatibility with such a dimension.

Asked by: arjunm009
The recommended enclosures for this driver are listed on the product page. Two of these would work well in that enclosure assuming you keep it sealed, but they will only play down to about 150 Hz.
