Lately the scorpions have not been manufactured as well as I like. Glue has not been totally around the outside edge of the speaker and speaker would splat from movement not stabilized. What other brand would be a good replacement in a sp-5
Please contact PE technical support with this question at (800) 338-0531. Before calling, determine the volume of air inside your SP-5 speakers, and also have the dimensions of any bass-reflex ports handy. It's often the case that most replacement PA woofers are interchangeable with others of the same size, but a call to PE tech support will help verify this.

Any reason this speaker should or could not be used in a bass cab?
The biggest reason this would not be the first choice for a bass guitar application would be its lack of low end response and excursion even in a vented cab. For a very similar price, the Eminence Legend would be a better choice.http://www.parts-express.com/eminence-legend-cb158-15-bass-guitar-speaker--290-497
