Surface Transducer Turns Virtually Anything Into A Speaker

I mounted these to some large hollow core sliding closet doors. I struggled for a long time thinking about how I was going to add sound to our new baby room. I was about to buy some in ceiling speakers when I stumbled upon these gems.

It took about an hour to find the best spot on the doors to mount them. I settled on right behind the handle on the back side. This transfered the maximum amount of bass and had pretty satisfactory midrange results as well. anywhere the middle of the door yielded a hollow boombox sound. I put a small brace/bump stop on the back side of the forward door to keep the rear door form colliding with the exciters.

I couldn't find any "retail" double sided sticky tape that was strong enough to hold these more than 24 hrs. I ended up just super glueing them. Many online forums were recommending 3M 9469PC transfer tape.

I'm powering these with a cheap chinese ebay amp powered with a TA2020. Works perfect. All in all, I couldn't be happier....i mean seriously, the doors are my speakers and all the wiring is in the closet! It's perfect for my situation and now all i can stop thinking about is....where else can i use these things.

Mounted a couple of these to the steel outter surface of my 27' above ground swimming pool. You can hear the music while in the pool pretty clear. Makes great atmosphere for laying in the pool late in the evening when you don't want to bother the neighbors with the main speakers. Waterproofing (from overflow and rain)is still an ongoing project, but at this price I can afford to lose a couple.

After removing the filter and the casing of the device (i.e. the white plastic) and mounting on a suitable surface these transducers really sing I used a 24 by 30 sheet of 1/8 inch birch plywood. This material is still a little too heavy for using as a NXT Speaker like device, but provides the bass many other materials lack. For each speaker 4 transducers + 1 cheap full range was used .the efficiency of the speaker is not high, but when suitably powered these can be very loud. For the 24 dollars spent on the speakers and 20 bucks for the materials these have proved to be some of the best <50 dollar speakers I have ever heard. One last thought, after these were stained, they look gorgeous and it s hard to think of anyone objecting to these being on display in a living room
