MTX H625CE 6-1/2" Enclosed Ceiling Speaker Pair

It's hard to find good sounding enclosed back speakers. The laws of physics work against any speaker with an enclosed back compared to open back ceiling speakers. These speakers are no exception. The metal ported enclosures make them sound shrill with lots of midrange colorations and very weak bass. These speakers are well made with some nice features but, ultimately, don't sound that great. The far cheaper Dayton ES65C ceiling speakers blow the MTX H625CE away (but, of course, don't have a closed back). I replaced mine the only thing I could find that would fit (with a bit of enlargement) in the opening--the Preference K-8LCRS--and the sound MUCH better!

We have used these in a number of installations in homes and in university classrooms. The enclosed back, ease of installation, and quality of sound make this a good buy.
