DISCONTINUED Sonic Impact 5065 Gen 2 T-Amp with Power Supply

i owned the original sonic impact model that this dayton unit is a rebrand of. it sounded AWESOME, but there are several manufacturing issues with it.

1. the batteries are stacked vertically and are hard to install and remove because the springs get in the way and get bent the 1st time you use it

2. the spring terminals are extra flimsy plastic and break after unplugging your speaker wires just a couple dozen times

3. after just a year's use in a bike system, the amp finally blew up and is totally useless

it's an awesome sounding amp if you're using it for a permanent installation like for a PC, but total junk if you're using it for it's alleged "portability"

it's also no longer $30 anymore. $40+ is too much for anything guaranteed to break in under a year

I purchased an original T-Amp as part of a package with the portable cardboard speakers from Parts Express. I used it outside when working on the yard and was impressed. I was more impressed when I brought it into the house and used it in place of my vintage Onkyo received in my primary music system. But that left me without a portable amp, so I ordered the Gen 2 T-Amp to use in my primary system so I could return the original T-Amp to portable use. I noticed immediately that there was more "heft" to the sound produced by the Gen 2 T-Amp. The original was a little bass-shy, perhaps because I was using it with a 1.5 amp power supply I had in my junk drawer. The Gen 2 comes with a nice 3 amp PS. I use the Gen 2 T-Amp with Klipsch KG4's in a very large room. The sound is exceptional. The amp is very quiet, transparent, and can get quite loud. I am so glad I decided to return the original to its intended use as a portable amp and upgrade to the Gen 2 T-Amp for my primary system. I rated Features as only a 2.5 because, let's face it, all it has is a on/off volume control. But otherwise it is an amazing value. I can listen for hours without fatigue. I've never been able to do that with any other amp.

I built my own version of The Podzuma and was running it using a 40w car amp that simply gobbled battery power. This amp plays nearly as loud while pulling 1.2 amps max as opposed to 2.2. My podzuma now plays for several hours with the 7ah battery that I am using. Overall, I am pleased and would use this for anything small or portable. Performance on AA's was noticeably hindered at the highest volumes but DUH! The amp delivered what is promised which is reasonable quality and power for small portable gear.
