Good 10 inch Woofer Or 8 inch Music Sub Thursday, November 19, 2009
Skullwurx from L'Epiphanie , Quebec , Canada
Being Canadian , I paid more than $25ea. ...more like $37(CDN)ea. , because of customs-salestaxes-handling fees . In Canada , LAT250s cost a little shy of $100(with sales tax), each!
But , after much waiting ( postal mixup) ,I am impressed with the LAT250s perfomance . First test , straight out of the box was an "Open Baffle" configuration , no crossover (my base test on drivers). No Distortion with a highend of more-or-less 1600HZ ? Wow! It's comparable to the output of a decent 10 inch woofer (in an open baffle configuration) . As a sub , further tests will probably tell me that the LAT250s are great 8 inch "Music" subwoofers . But , with no distortion , which really impresses me , we're talking "High-End" 8 inch musical subwoofer . With really powerful bass for 5or7 speaker Home Theater . The (point)"." 1 should be left for a subwoofer , for the really low-end bass . The Lats bottom-out at around 50HZ or more . No "earthquake" there , for sure . And don't forget , "dual coils" at 4ohms each . Good for 2-8 ohms , for single driver . Or 2x4 ohms for a 2.1 speaker setup . Lots of options . Enclosures can be downsized from what space regular circular drivers(8 or 10 inch) take up , without skimping of performance.
Overall , 1- Not Expensive ($25US-$37CDN)
2- Great Performance (Distortion-Free)
3- Lots of Flexibility (in Wiring/Boxes)
I highly recommend this product for all DIY speaker builders .
