Decent replacement speaker
Tuesday, December 1, 2009
Parts Express Customer from ny

Bought this speaker to replace some old Jensen drivers in a sealed enclosure. The dvc is a nice touch but being dual 8 would make it tough for most replacement home applications unless you use just one coil (not recommended but thats what I did). Either way, the sound is better than the 20 year old jensen drivers and there were no issues with the tinsel leads that I could see. Keep in mind that this is a low powered system used for backround music. If you pumped these, there could be a chance that the long leads could short but as others have said, its a easy fix.

Not bad for the money

Adam M from Riverside, CA

I am using these as midbass woofers in my car. They have a high Qts (.83) so they work well in my door. The door is sealed well with dynamat to create an infinite baffle. I crossed them over at 80Hz 12db high-pass to 300Hz 12db low-pass. One problem that can be easily fixed with a soldering gun and a pair of small needle nose pliers are the leads. They are too long and will short out. Simply apply the soldering gun to the speaker leads and with the needle nose grap the tinsle lead and pull it out some slack. Release the heat and trim off the excess lead. They seem to handle the 50 watts of power just fine, could use a bit more though. Overall, i'm satisfied with them as a mid-bass driver over the Vifa I previously used, but then again I'm using them in such a narrow band other critics might have other opinions.

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

PR Audio from W. KY / S. IL

This might not be a bad little woofer for some uses: It has decent power handling and response up into the mids. I bought a large # of these on that basis.

BUT. The lead wires on some touch the top of the Alum. bobbin. and in some cases are shorted to it. In some cases, it's more than one lead that is shorted. You get the picture: More excitement than you need...

If you are prepared to pull the dust cap, check the leads, on about 50%: soften the leads' glue & move them off the top of the bobbin, re-glue the leads, & glue on a new dust cap; it's an ok little woofer for the $$, for some uses.
