DISCONTINUED Peerless 830500 XLS 12" Subwoofer

The Peerless 830500 XLS 12" Subwoofer turned out to be an excellent driver. I mounted 2 of these in separate 2.7 cu ft sealed enclosures - no porting. In-box resonance measured 30 Hz. This supported strong output down to about 28 Hz. Long throw design with a 400 Watt amp driving both in parallel resulted in clean chest pounding room shaking performance in surround system .. couldn't be happier with results. A little pricey, but worth it. Would have preferred spring loaded gold plated terminals rather than spade lugs. You can't go wrong with this one. Be sure you have adequate space between grill cloth and sub surrounds ... these baby's really move!!

This is the best sub-woofer available for dipole cabinets. This is due to its not generating operational noise. Simply put; this speaker will therefore not color the sound for any cabinet type. It is a superior transducer. It "pumps" accurately. It only "thumps" when you tell it to. In this price range, this sub-woofer delivers extraordinary engineering success and mfg quality.

I agree with the previous reviewers...this sub is a top quality product. I have mine in a sealed 1.5 cu. ft. box (grabbed the 1.5 ported car box from P.E.: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Par tnumber=260-630&scqty=1 when they were on sale and sealed it from the inside, driver fit right in with no cutout hole mods) and I am very pleased with the results. Sounds great, efficient, effortless deep bass for HT, and a terrific music sub, very low distortion across the board. I researched getting a 12" sub for about a month before finally pulling the trigger on this one, no regrets. This thing won't shake my neighbor's walls but I knew that going in. My only very minor dislike is the sub input terminals are the spade lug type (I prefer binding posts). My next minor system upgrade will be adding a passive radiator to this box. I will be enjoying this driver for years to come.

My advice is do the research to have present and future goals set prior to purchase so you go in with eyes wide open to avoid disappointment. I made provisions for major driver/sub-box upgrades (not likely for a long time) by purchasing a separate Behringer EP2500 amp and Elemental Design eQ.2 equalizer dedicated for the sub.
