The vibrating element of a planar tweeter is almost weightless in comparison to a dome tweeter. The element consists of Kapton film with a pattern of aluminium conductors which is placed precisely between two Neodymium bar magnets. It provides an immediate and precise response to any transients in the original signal. These drivers are magnetically shielded and feature a linear phase response which provides time coherent reproduction resulting in accurate musical rhythm and imaging. The Series II version of the classic RT1 offers the same sonic performance as the standard model, but with updated cosmetic styling. The solid aluminum faceplate includes a bead-blasted finish on the main surface, with beveled brushed-aluminum towards the sides. The result is a visually stunning tweeter that gives a modern look to any project. If off axis perfection is your goal - score!

This tweeter has unparalleled off axis response if you use it without the faceplate. Used naked, it has a response difference of roughly 3dB at up to 75 degrees horizontal at 15kHz, when compared to the on axis response plot. However, it is ugly when used naked and distortion performance is bad when used under about 5.5kHz. It will mate at 5.5kHz with a 4th order electrical filter to the Dayton RS52 dome mid with perfection, even out to 75 degrees, if you use the right filters.
