Morel CAW 638 6" Cast Frame Woofer

I had originally purchased a Dayton RS150S-8 woofer for use in a 2.1 speaker system. Although it was a nice, very well-built unit, I wasn't quite getting the sound out of the Dayton woofer that I was hoping for. I decided to spend a little extra and give the Morel CAW638 a shot.

I was immediately impressed with this woofer out of the box. The build quality is excellent, with a solid cast aluminum frame, 3" voice coil, and a vented pole piece with a little filter to prevent unwanted particulates from entering and causing damage. When I mounted the woofer in the test box, I was wowed again. With a full-spectrum signal and no equalization, the CAW638 sounded very natural and balanced. With just a touch of loudness correction on my amplifier, I was impressed with the depth of bass I could get out of this woofer in a sealed box--strong output down to about 60 or 70 Hz. My only complaint with this unit is the price--it's pretty expensive, but it was money well-spent for good sound.

I am using this woofer in a 0.25 cu. ft. sealed box with a Morel CAT308 tweeter crossed over at 2.5 kHz with a slope of 12 dB/octave.
