Usher 9950-20 1-1/8" Textile Dome Tweeter

All I can say is these tweeters are very crisp and smooth. I agree, Usher has managed to create an affordable product that produces some of the best imaging I've heard without an hint of harshness or abrasive sound. This is the way to go for an inexpensive but high quality sound.

The tweeter was installed into a 2-way sealed system crossed at 1600 hz. The system was initially crossed 2nd order, but phase interference was almost immediately apparent, so the crossover was changed to a 4th order network which fixed the problem. The 2-way configuration demands good performance over the entire specified range of the tweeter, and it seems to be up to the task. Listening was done using both a tube amp and a transistor amp. The transistor amp provided good high frequency extension, but compared with the tubes, it sounded a bit "thinner". While these are really amp issues, it does tell me that the tweeter is faithfully reproducing the characteristics of the amplifier. Overall, the tweeter provides a nice sensation of "air", and is quite smooth. It is able to reproduce fine detail and sounds exquisite when playing bell like or tinkly tones. IMHO, this tweeter deserves high quality caps in the high pass portion of the crossover to extract the best sound and detail.

If you are looking for a very smooth response yet detailed and clear tweeter this is it. The overall package is incredible for the price. Usher has managed to create an affordable product that produces some of the best imaging I've heard without an hint of harsh or abrasive sound. A+
