BOSS BASS600 Low Profile Amplified 8" Subwoofer

I recently installed the 8" version under the driver's seat of my 2004 Honda Civic Si. I chose the 8" over the 10" because the longer dimension fit between the seat rails of my car and the shorter dimension was still short of the back end of each rail.

I'm using this subwoofer along with a JVC head unit which has extensive low pass filtering options for the sub, but doesn't filter the main four speakers at all. I have the JVC set at 80 Hz with 18dB/octave slopes and this sub does a great job of filling in the region where my 6.5" front and rear speakers begin to roll off.

This subwoofer seems to lack the near-subsonic rumble that larger subwoofers can produce, but they do well to cover the range of most music and beyond. With the subwoofer level set to match that of my speakers I've never heard it strain at any volume level, although at louder levels it does vibrate my seat a bit but it does emulate a "bass shaker" or other tactile transducer in a way.

In summary this product is perfect for supplementing a head unit that drives front/rear speakers by filling in the region where those speakers begin to lack output in the bass region. I've also found that it allows for a wider selection of speakers because you aren't limited to speakers that are bass heavy (and sometimes lower in sensitivity).
