Pyramid PB440X Super Blue 2x35W Amplifier

Purchased this amp for an atv audio pipe. Works great and powers to polk 6.5's louder and clearer than expected.

I bought it for my audio pipe, paired with some nice speakers it sounds great.

I used this amp as the centerpiece of my 12V portable audio system that I could use on my ATV, boat, and etc. I needed a reasonably priced amp that was small enough to fit inside my enclosure and didn't demand huge amounts of current.

It doesn't get extremely loud, but it has plenty of output for my application. Don't expect this amp to output its bloated ratings. Assuming at best it is 60% efficient and your car's charging system is providing an optimal 14.4 volts, you can only hope for up to 21.6x2 watts considering its 5 amp fuse rating. In a real world application, it will be even less than that. Still, it has enough output to power a pair of modest speakers.

The sound quality is surprisingly excellent. The sound produced is very warm and natural, not harsh and artificial. Response is fairly flat across the entire spectrum. The noise floor is also very low, even with the gain set very high, hiss is only noticeable if you hold your ear close to a speaker.

This amp is also very tough. For almost the past two months, it's been attached to the front rack of my ATV and holding up well to all the bouncing and jarring. It's also having no problem dealing with the ATV's erratic charging system. The massive heatsink is also a big plus because it's mounted inside a sealed enclosure.

However, the good ends here. A friend of mine wanted to build an audio system like mine, so I ordered another amp for him. It turned out defective, the fuse would pop as soon as it was powered, regardless of whether or not the remote wire was powered. Parts Express' service was great and shipped out another amp for us. Unfortunately, the second amp was having the exact same problem. An ohmmeter test showed that there was continuity between the power and ground wires. Parts Express stepped up once again and we are waiting on a third amp. If this one doesn't work, I will follow up with another review and have to find an alternative amp.
