Sherwood RX-4105 Stereo Receiver

I recently purchased this for a friend. Viewing the internals, all of the circuits are recognizable. Its a discrete amp, by the way.

The radio tuner works well and the remote is sane in operation. It seems that the tuner section may be high fidelity class.

The bass-n-treble doesn't make much of a midbass bloom when one uses the bass control, so this is quite nice. The frequency response tapers off a bit at the low end, but its so much better than most retail audio because the Sherwood doesn't make boomy. Its quite pleasant.

Most entertaining with either:
*3-way speakers that have l-pads (volume) for midrange and treble speaker drivers.
or
*Use a pair of medium size speakers and a nice big 12" subwoofer(s) (also available at parts express).

Employment:
It was a bargain for providing entertainment in a house that is the "great room" design (huge spaces are difficult for home audio equipment). The pair of large 3-way speakers were used as indicated (puts speakers nearer ear level). This made for only 2 "boxes" and 2 wires, so it was quite clean. Old fashioned = much less mess.
The large presentation successfully provided entertainment without any blaring whatsoever.
This job went easily and with much better results than expected for the price.

I am using this receiver in a 4 zone home audio system with Dayton speakers purchased here also. It works great.

I bought a my Sherwood from here, and I had a compatibility problem with my speakers hooked up to my Sherwood receiver, because my Sherwood keep shutting down when I turn the volume up to 55. My 8 ohm speakers call for an amplifier or receiver with an 8 ohm or less compatibility. But my Sherwood call for Speakers that have 8 ohms or more. I had to order some crossover parts from Parts Express to build an impedance compensation network for my speakers to keep my speakers at static impedance 8 ohms on all audio frequencies to make them compatible to my Sherwood.

Now I can turn my volume up to 56 on my Sherwood, and it is doing 120 watts per channel in my modified speakers. This Sherwood is so loud in my 3 way speakers with 12" woofers, it made my ears sore with earplugs on.

If you buy this Sherwood, make sure your speakers call for 8 ohms or above compatibile amplifier or receiver, and not 8 ohms and below.
