The U.S. is in the midst of an overhaul of our educational technology. Blackboards and overhead projectors were a mainstay in the classroom for decades but this obsolete technology is being replaced by PCs, document cameras, and video projectors. In an effort to make projector installation easier, integrators resort to a multitude of techniques to provide clean and easy to use projection systems. Field terminating cables is tedious and time consuming; hours can be wasted moving your work station from end to end and room to room. Pre-terminated cables create a problem of their own when you try to push a gang of cables into a small electrical box. Audio and video baluns are somewhat easier to use but generally result in less than desirable signal quality and cause timing errors on critical "VGA" signals.

Video Hydra projector wall plate transmitter-receiver system eradicates the most tedious installation problems. All of the common projector signals are integrated into the transceiver pair. Two simple runs of inexpensive category 5e or category 6 cable connect the transmitter to the receiver. Termination is easy using the simple 110 punch-down terminals on each unit. "VGA" timing problems can be easily overcome utilizing the on-board skew compensation. The Hydra transmitter wall plate switches between audio and video inputs to capitalize on bandwidth limitations of the UTP cable. When the "VGA" signal is removed and either the composite or s-video input is active, the transmitter switches to the active input. Simply turning off the laptop or PC's secondary monitor is sufficient to cause the transmitter to switch. Maximum distances of 500 ft. at 1280 x 1024 resolution, 350 ft. at 1600 x 1200 resolution, and 250 ft. at 1920 x 1200 resolution.

I picked up a pair of these for an installation in a law office. There was existing lines of category cable throughout the building, so installing these was a snap-I ran a computer signal 150 feet to a projector in a conference room but have the capability of adding their dvd or a few other av sources. Cost me less than other things I looked at. Only complaint was having to inject power from the front, other than that, great product
