Good budget capacitor, watch for tolerance Sunday, August 23, 2009
Teddy Hickman from Bethlehem, PA
I recapped my Harmon Kardon HK-20 speaker using these capacitors. Even though I only needed 2 (one per speaker), I decided to order 3 to closely match values.
To my surprise, none of the capacitors were within 10% of their rated value (their rated value was 8 uF). One was about 8.97 uF, another about 8.95 uF, and another about 8.90 uF.
In general, this is a good capacitor--the price is certainly right, and it will still be a good upgrade for an old speaker whose capacitors' performance is degrading with age. If you plan to build speakers where precision values are important, however (say, within 5 or 10 percent of their rated value), spend the extra money and get the polypropylene capacitors.
