DISCONTINUED Dayton HPSA1000-R 1000W Rackmount Subwoofer Amp

I have had this product for a little over a year now and it continues to shine. I needed an OTB (Outside The Box) amplifier for driving my passive New Larger Subwoofer (12" woven carbon grafite megawoofer & 15" polypropelene active w/15 passive) that is manufactured by VMPS. As it turned out, this IS the amplifier chosen by VMPS for resale for driving their awesome sub! It has never gotten warm to the touch, even when my soft recliner is vibrating from sustained sub-sonic energy. I am using stereo outputs from a flagship Yamaha RX-Z11 (11.2 channel) receiver electronically crossed in at either @40/60Hz in order to get the desired maximum 1KW out of it, and around 40% volume has me searching for nagging room rattles. The only improvement I can think of would be the ability to change the floor-to-ceiling notch filter without getting inside to the cover.

I am using this amp to power a Polk PSW-125 after the original internal amp went kapuee (blows fuses). I run the amp about half way and it does the job very well. Great for home movies and music. Best bang for the buck.

This amp is based off of a Sunfire design(Bob Carver) and of course is quite different. I tested it on a cabinet of known effeciency( 2x Peavey Low Rider subs, 15 inch modes = 93.7 db 1 w 1m or 96.3 combined ) This 4 ohm load thearetically would produce output of about 126.7 db 1 w 1m. I was about to get 127.7 with most music indicating that the amp has some headroom above the 1024. Common sense would say at that spl headroom would be in the 2db range, which is acceptable but not as nice as lets say 3 which is double RMS power. I believe this type of amp is at fault there but in reality the 1259 watts that is estimated usable is more than enough for most cases. This is based on the spl I actually was able to reach consistantly knowing the sensitivity and distance of measurement. There is a bad mouth review of this amp but I believe its the way it was tested with a resistive rather than inductive load. Also it can be noted that if you go for the transformer voltage of 99 volts on the secondary the output should be easily achieved. During no time did I notice this amp even get warm and so far has been trouble free and noise free. Sound quality is quite good and with my drivers bass is tight and quick. The traditional Bob Carver design uses no heatsink so since this model uses one it should last longer than its plate amp bretherin. If anyone is to read a review doubting the possibility of this amps output based on output devices they should read what the tracking downcoverter does and that can be found on the sunfire webpage under whitepapers.
