Badd Little Woofer
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Matt from Louisville, Kentucky

I was expecting big things from this woofer. I got big things. right now i have it in a quarter wave transmission line being pushed by about 15 watts. this little things delivers. now it doesnt have amazing lows (below 40 hz is lacking for my taste) because after all it is a 5" driver with a 45 hz fs but it can hold its own against some larger speakers out there.Im going to try and find some more power for it to use and see if the performance increases. Worth Every Penny

Worth it with the right design.

Tried this driver in a .5 ft. sealed box with the Dayton 25W sub amp and was dissapointed. I ported the box and tuned to 42Hz and that works great. Yes, it is a very tight fit in a 6x6x13, but small for what this can do. This works great as a subwoofer with a pair of M-Audio BX5a monitors. Easily fills in the bottom octave without overpowering the monitors. This driver can easily go down to 30Hz and sound clean with the 25Watt amp. If you are tight for space in your studio, I would definitely recommend this.

How can they make low bass?

Memomaster from Indianapolis, IN

I've reviewed these before, and they are a blast and fun. I got three before for $19 each and they were used in a computer 2.1 project and in cars, and they work perfect for that. I sold the car and ended up taking the 2.1 system apart and bought another one at $33 so I could put 4 in one sub.

I just got done building it and at the moment, I've been playing with it in my stereo. Hooked up properly to a low level sub output, it does have a surprising kick to them and can even shake things. I built this for a HT sub and it will work. At the moment, I have it hooked up to my main stereo speakers and they are seas drivers and very clean. As cool and fun as this thing is, it's not clean enough for my stereo setup.

I don't have any regrets, but I'm glad I got the first three on sale. If I had paid $33 for 4 of them, it would be way more cost effective to just go with a bigger sub. IMO $33 is really pushing it. With 4 of them though, they don't need nearly as much power.

Use these and it's bigger brothers for HT and cars. They do have lower distortion compared to a lot of commercial subs I've heard, but not high end.
