How to Buy American without Looking Like a Nut Sunday, August 17, 2008

I used these caps with my woofers, to go with the coils in a second-order low-pass crossover. I was pleased with the result (a much more definitive bass) but I was also pleased with the price. At just under $6/cap, this product is 7 times more expensive than its electrolytics equivalent, but what's $7 - especially when there is no equivalence between electrolytics and polypropylene? Furthermore, Dayton's caps are a mere fraction of the cost of buying Danish. This isn't even Dayton's top cap. It's just that, on low-pass crossovers, the cap is not critical, so you can make an excellent upgrade that won't break the bank. This is one of those times where buying American makes good sense.
