Non-inductive claim false but harmless Thursday, February 26, 2009
Splatticus from USA
I'd just like to add that these are made the same way and are just as inductive as any wirewound power resistors. There is a solenoid of resistance wire wound simply in one direction on a thin core and embedded in cement. What keeps this from being a scam is that this construction generally creates inductance that is low enough not to matter much at audio frequencies, and the price is about the same as any wirewound resistor.
These also have zero-purpose gold plating on the leads that is difficult to solder to and dissolves away into the solder once one is able to tin them.
FWIW, real non-inductive wirewound power resistors are much more expensive, but not necessary, and tin plating is always best.
These are a good value as long as you don't expect them to be truly non-inductive. Still, I'd go with the Xicon units, because they are easier to solder to and do not reward anyone for printing dubious information on the parts.
I don't think this detracts from PE or Dayton as great companies that make or sell mostly great stuff. I buy all kinds of stuff from them, just not these resistors, which failed my initial eval.

good resisitor but regular 10W ones measure better Thursday, December 4, 2008
Litekeys from Fresno, CA
I use a lot of 10 Watt resistors--hundreds and hundreds per year--in speaker circuits, especially in the 8 ohm value. So on two different occasions months apart, using a quality LCR meter, I have measured the quality of these against the regular 10w 8.2 sandcast/ceramics Dayton sells. These certainly meet their specs, nicely: example: inductance only 4.6uH, DCR 8.19...BUT the 8.2 Ohm 10W sandcast/ceramics Parts Express sells for a third of the price of the non-inductive ones consistently do better: 4.1uH and 8.27 OHMs...lower inductance AND closer precision!
