Parts Express TriTrix MTM TL Knock-Down CNC Speaker Cabinet Pair
Parts Express TriTrix MTM TL Knock-Down CNC Speaker Cabinet Pair is rated 4.6471 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy builtSince the cabinet is CNC pre-cut it was really easy to assemble the pair. I used 4 clamps on the long parts and 2 clamps on the shorter top and bottom parts. Took me roughly 3 hours per inclusive glue drying time to get them together. Some people are complaining about the screws to skimpy to do the job but they are fine with mine. They need to be pre-drilled!!! otherwise you can end up with split parts.I would urge everybody to also countersink the holes where the screws are going in or you end up with heads sticking out of the side panels!Still need to do filling and sanding to get the paint job done on them but that will be a smaller task.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Easy!I spent more time finishing these then assembling them.  A kid could do it.  I would have given this project 5 stars had the two internal braces for each cabinet not been missing.  It was an easy fix so it did not impact my build.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from these are really clever!i bought these to save time and i modified them slightly. i increased the front baffle, changing it to a top mount and increasing the width. it now each cabinet houses dual peerless HDS 6.5 woofers, a morel em1308 dome mid and a vifa ring radiator tweeter. Custom built xovers and wow!! i finished them with real wood red maple veneer and three coats of stain and 4 coats of highly polished poly. VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULT! If you have the ability to build an accurate xover system, and the knowledge to play with the internal damping of the box, this is just another way to go with these cabinets. They are a great example of a TL design in compact form. Just a note...make certain you have good clean power. TL designs are often not super efficient, but they make excellent bass that is deep and smooth...but not boomy or thumpy like the heavy bass that a lot of people think bass should be...ie big box car sub systems...home audio and audiophile bass is not quite so thumpy. when selecting a mod option you will have to make some adjustments to the internal folding horn. (not always but sometimes)...to avoid this try and select drivers that will have a comparable f3 and fq range as the dayton drivers originally used when the parameters for this TL enclosure were calculated give or take ....you have a little room +/_ form the original specs, but don't go crazy or you will have to make modifications! TL enclosure calculations can be complicated!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clean cutThese cabinets go together really easy. The CNC cut MDF makes for very clean edges. Although, I was dissapointed when I opened the box. After sorting out the different pieces I noticed I was missing 3 of 4 interior supports and given an extra corner bracket that goes in the bottom. Customer service was great and was going to send them right of way. they were just 2" by 6 1/2" pieces of mdf so I made them myself instead of waiting. I think they should have designed them with a few more screws on the sides. Overall they are nice and clean. All the more quick clamps the better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from too easy!i built a couple pair form scratch as gifts for some close friends, but i was not satisfied with the quality of the material that i used, and the build quality (im not good enough for me!)the fit was great! cleaned up with a router, sanded, and painted piano black. I will keep these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good ProductReally easy to put together. Had to do some sanding on a few rough edges left over, no big deal. Wood screws that came with the kit were aweful so I ended up having to use my own. When I received the kit it did not include speaker screws. This kit it so easy to assemble and sounds so good it makes up for all it's hardware shortcomings.

Parts Express TriTrix MTM TL Knock-Down CNC Speaker Cabinet Pair

I was wondering if the HiVi M5N 5" Aluminum/Magnesium Midbass would work in these boxes ?

Asked by: hiviman1
These cabinets are design for the Dayton Classic 5-1/4" woofers. The M5N could possibly work, although we have no way of modeling a TL to know how it looks. The baffles will also probably need to be modified in order for the M5N drivers to fit properly.

What in the world is the point of glueing / clamping mdf, letting it cure, and THEN putting in screws?  The only use for screws in mdf is to hold the joint together while the glue dries (i.e, instead of clamps).

Asked by: MeMyselfI
Screws can be omitted optionally, but provide even more solidity to the assembly and prevent panel buzzing if the glue distribution across the seam is less than perfect.

will the tb 5" full range speaker fit in this cabinet?  i know its not recommended but given the cutout for 5 1/4 will Tang Band W5-1611SAF 5" fit?

Asked by: Niel
No, the recesses and through holes would require modification since the Tang Band speaker is just over 6" in diameter, and the Dayton this cabinet is intended for is just under 5-3/4".

Can I use 2 of the TB W5-1611's in each cabinet?

Asked by: Andyld
Unfortunately we do not recommend anything other than the 5-1/4" Dayton Classic woofers in these cabinets.

Custom made front baffle?

Hi Parts Express Team,Is it possible to order a custom made front baffle for a 2 way design?I am thinking of using a 6.5 Inch FR driver like Fostex and a ribbon tweeter? Will it be a good idea?ThanksVivek
Asked by: viveksaikia
The design works best as designed. You could modify the front baffles to accommodate various speakers. Contact PE to see of they will do it. I would give specs to a local finish carpenter and have the baffles made local and start building a box builder relationship.
