Parts Express Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 3/8" Shaft 8 Ohm

L-pads adjust the relative volume of drivers connected to them by placing added resistance in series. At the same time, a counter-resistance is placed in parallel with the driver to maintain a constant impedance which allows the original crossover design to be used. L-pads are to be placed in between the amplifier and speaker, or in between the crossover and driver. This particular L-pad is rated at 100 watts RMS, is designed to be used with 8 ohm loads, features a 3/8" shaft length, and comes with mounting hardware, faceplate, and volume control knob.

Dimensions: 2-1/2" diameter, 1" depth.

Parts Express Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 3/8" Shaft 8 Ohm
Parts Express Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 3/8" Shaft 8 Ohm is rated 4.5667 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for guitar ampsI built an L Pad box for my Krank 100W Guitar amp. The amp sounds great but as with any tube amp it's a bit much for even a medium size room. I built mine into a La Flor Dominicana cigar box. It looks incredible and does the job. Like other posters, I wish the taper were a bit smoother but it accomplishes its end goal - allowing me to drive the amp a wee bit harder but keep the overall volume down. Way cheaper than an attenuator and much better looking.

Parts Express Speaker L-Pad Attenuator 100W Mono 3/8" Shaft 8 Ohm

In says in the product description that this L-pad is designed to be used with 16 ohm loads. Is this a typo? I would just like to make sure that adding this l-pad to my 8 ohm tweeter will not change the load on the crossover.

Asked by: PierceC
Yes this is a typo and I will have it fixed. This L-pad is 8 ohm.

Are L-Pads appropriate to be used on mids crossed down in the 150 Hz range or will that cook them?

Asked by: mprisbrey
150 Hz is pretty low for one of these. It really depends on how much power you need to feed them.

I connected this 100w L-pad on a Dayton  SA100 75W Amp for two shaker Aura 50w in series, to be at 8 ohms and this L-pad overheating, I followed the diagram for connections!  what to do now, is it possible to install this L-Pad without overheating?

Asked by: Anthon
Unfortunately these L-pads are only designed for low current draw loads like midranges and tweeters. The only way to attenuate the volume of the shakers is to adjust the gain on the amplifier itself in this case.

What is the diameter of the case on this unit?

Asked by: Gord
This has a 2-1/2 inch diameter case.

The ribbon tweeter is much louderthan the 15" speaker ,The tweeter is 8ohm 40w .Is this the right L-Pad for my tweeter?

Asked by: maelov23
Yes this L-pad will work for that application.

Lets say I designed a speaker with 2 8 ohm tweeters , can I use one 8 ohm l-pad to attenuate both tweeters ? or would I have to have 2 l-pads one for each tweeter.

Asked by: scratchy
Since the L-pad is only designed to work with 8 ohm loads, you would have to use a stereo L-pad in order to attenuate both at the same time, hooking up one tweeter to each output on the L-pad.
