Parts Express Digital to Analog Converter (5.1-Compatible)

It's the ultimate insult: You go to connect your new HDTV to your stereo, only to find out that the TV manufacturer has omitted RCA stereo outputs. Fortunately, you don't have to set aside that favorite analog receiver or amp, nor do you have to live with wimpy on-board TV sound.

This digital-to-analog converter is a simple solution for taking the digital optical SPDIF or coaxial signal from your TV and turning it into an analog RCA left/right signal. It has the ability to decode the most popular digital formats, including PCM stereo, and all popular 5.1 and 7.1 multi-channel home theater formats.

An advanced chipset ensures compatibility with virtually any HDTV!

Specifications: • Supported sampling rates: up to 20-bit / 96 KHz • Signal to noise ratio: ≥90 dB • Stereo separation: 80 dB (1 KHz) • Frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz ±0.5 dB • Analog audio output level: 1Vp-p (1 kHz @ 0 dB Fs) • THD: ≤0.03%.

Note: Some units may have the switch reversed for coaxial and SPDIF optical inputs. Please try both positions if you are experiencing difficulties with this converter.

Digital to Analog Converter (5.1-Compatible) is rated 4.2222 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from They work with some issuesI want to start by saying these are great overall and that the company will gladly send you a new one. I have bought over 30 of these by now. most times all options work on it. I have had a handful that new out of box have had bad solder jobs on them. if you wiggle port sound will go in and out. it is an easy fix for me but maybe not for others. Also a little weaker on the optical port to where you have to have strong signal. So if you need to split the optical signal or your cable is at all kinked it will not work...there are the more expensive brands that will though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yea, It does work with my TVThis unit does work with my S#$%^ brand TV, this is my third purchase for these D to A converters with the attempt to connect my optical TV output to my 2 channel amplifier input. all three seems to work with my P#$%^& brand TV but only this D-to-A works with my S@@# TV. connecting my Cable TV directly to my "ant TV input" then tuning into a digital HD station sounded like a dying bird. But with this converter works on all stations HD or not! I guess my cable company is transmitting 5.1 only, it is very difficult to research how the TV converts different sound formats as well as how my provider transmits its sound signal. I attempted to contact both and read all the manuals and still I was not sure if the converter would work. But now by experience this converter seems to convert the necessary signal to my amplifier from all my sound sources. the quality seems to be acceptable to me and the delay in sound from the lips is small, not visually noticeable but I do hear an echo with both TV speakers and amp speakers on so I ust lover the volume down on TV and all is fine.

Will this unit decode broadcast tv audio to analog stereo

Asked by: Don H

Sorry I forgot another part of the question. Mine is a smart TV and some converters say they won't handle inputs like Netflix or Amazon. Will this unit handle all those inputs?

Asked by: JimMes
The audio output on your television is independent of the "Smart TV" capabilities of your television.

I have a LG TV, 50LB6100 with Toslink audio out + multiple HDMI. I have an older set of Logitech speakers (2.1), #Z523 with single 3.5mm male plug.  I need a product recommendation for audio out from TV to Z523 speakers (pair + woofer).  Thanks.

Does this converter require a separate cable to connect to a Panasonic Viera TV? If so, which cable is best

Asked by: Abe75
Yes this does require a separate cable. Any of the optical cables below will work fine, you will have to find a length that will work for your application.http://www.parts-express.com/cat/toslink-optical-cables/2146
