Parts Express DAC Digital to Analog Converter (5.1-Compatible)

It's the ultimate insult: You go to connect your new HDTV to your stereo, only to find out that the TV manufacturer has omitted RCA stereo outputs. Fortunately, you don't have to set aside that favorite analog receiver or amp, nor do you have to live with wimpy on-board TV sound.

This digital-to-analog converter is a simple solution for taking the digital optical SPDIF or coaxial signal from your TV and turning it into an analog RCA left/right signal. It has the ability to decode the most popular digital formats, including PCM stereo, and all popular 5.1 and 7.1 multi-channel home theater formats.

An advanced chipset ensures compatibility with virtually any HDTV!

Specifications: • Supported sampling rates: up to 20-bit / 96 KHz • Signal to noise ratio: ≥90 dB • Stereo separation: 80 dB (1 KHz) • Frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz ±0.5 dB • Analog audio output level: 1Vp-p (1 kHz @ 0 dB Fs) • THD: ≤0.03%.

Note: Some units may have the switch reversed for coaxial and SPDIF optical inputs. Please try both positions if you are experiencing difficulties with this converter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised. This is really plug and play. You do need an amplifier as it will not drive a pair of earbuds without one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works goodI hooked this unit up and it works well. Used in Dolby mode and it periodically cuts out and comes back on during a loud sound. I switched the output of my Blu-ray player to PCM and it works perfectly. Nice clear highs, deep bass as expected. I bought it primarily to use with my projector and gear for showing outdoor movies in the back yard in the summer months, so the Dolby thing isn't really a big deal to me since I only have it hooked to my small 5 channel mixer and a 300 watt stereo amp and speakers (no surround sound).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me money...I received a Blu-ray player for Christmas, not thinking about the fact that it would only have HDMI and digital audio outputs, and that I wouldn't be able to connect it to my aging H-K receiver (which I still love overall). While I do want to upgrade my receiver at some point, spending another $250-400 right now wasn't an option. Found this unit and it provides 5.1 channel sound. Volume level of rear channel isn't quite as high as before, but serviceable. Service of company was excellent - I ordered it Friday night, received it on Tuesday. Works just as it said...looks like Parts Express will take the place of Radio Shack for my "electronics challenges".

Rated 4 out of 5 by from so far so good!We needed a digital decoder for our optical output tv. Works really good for those sources that are connected through the HDMI cable into our TV. The decoding output may vary depending on the quality of the tuner in your TV. Connecting netfix to the TV and then through the decoder blew our eardrums out. So if you probably connect a bluray it should have similar results as we used a streaming tablet with micro HDMI connection. Digital sources versus analog output from TV channels are definitely better and cleaner but may vary from one TV to the next. So far were happy with the two channel output.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from They work with some issuesI want to start by saying these are great overall and that the company will gladly send you a new one. I have bought over 30 of these by now. most times all options work on it. I have had a handful that new out of box have had bad solder jobs on them. if you wiggle port sound will go in and out. it is an easy fix for me but maybe not for others. Also a little weaker on the optical port to where you have to have strong signal. So if you need to split the optical signal or your cable is at all kinked it will not work...there are the more expensive brands that will though.

looking at the Samsung UN60H6300 . Will this work with this TV?

Asked by: Smaz
It is designed to take the digital optical SPDIF or coaxial signal from your TV and turn it into an analog RCA left/right signal. As long as this television you are referring to has an optical output or a digital coaxial output, then it will convert that into an analog RCA left/right signal.

I am using Phonak link to hearing aids. I have the sound bar using the digital out on the Samsung tv.. No tv audio out. Is there a splitter that will allow me to come out of the tv digital to a splitter that has audio out and and digital? any ideas

Asked by: IzodIzod
We don't carry a single device that would accommodate your needs. But you could use the Toslink Digital Optical Audio Splitter, Part # 180-964 to split the signal. And if you needed one to be analog you would have to use the Parts Express DAC Digital to Analog Converter (5.1-Compatible), Part #180-999 to convert it to regular RCA analog outputs.

You will need a optical cable to connect the TV to the converter then you will use the RCA connections to connect to you speakers. The cables you will need are like part numbers 180-942 and 240-030.
