Parts Express BT-1A Bluetooth Receiver Module for Wireless Reception of Bluetooth Audio Signals

The BT-1A module builds upon the success of the orignal BT-1 Bluetooth audio receiver, and improves upon it by moving the power and audio connections on-board (2.5 x 1 mm power jack and stereo 3.5 mm audio jack), reducing the overall size of the module, and adding voice prompts for pairing and connection instructions.

The BT-1A is designed to integrate wireless Bluetooth audio from smartphones, tablets, or laptops into speakers and subwoofers, car audio applications, and remote wireless amplifiers. Additionally, this module may be used to create a wireless link between a Bluetooth source and a traditional amplifier, receiver, preamplifier, or mixer.

Features of this Bluetooth v1.2 compliant receiver module include a small form factor, a Class 2 range of up to 15 meters (49.2 feet), and 16-bit A2DP support for true stereo output. A USB A-Male to 2.5 x 1 mm power plug cable and a stereo 3.5 mm male plug to 3.5 mm jack extension cable are included with the module for quick connection and use. The USB A-Male plug is used as a power connection that uses 5 VDC off of the USB bus from a computer or powered USB hub.

Specifications: • Supply voltage: 3.3 to 5.0 VDC • Supply current: 50 mA • Operating frequency: 2.4 to 2.483 GHz • Bluetooth specification: v1.2 • Output power class: Class 2 • Receiver sensitivity: -80 dBm • Output level: 1V RMS • Output impedance: 1k ohm • Frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz (-3 dB) • Sampling: 44.1 kHz, 16-bit • Signal-to-noise ratio: 70 dB • THD: < 0.1% @ 1 kHz • Dynamic range: 85 dB • Channel separation: 65 dB • PCB dimensions: 3/4" W x 2-1/2" L • Includes 12" USB power cable and 18" stereo male to stereo female audio cable • Audio output cable length: 18".

Note: This device only receives stereo Bluetooth audio. The USB cable included is only for powering the BT-1A. This device does not transmit a Bluetooth signal, and does not convert the digital USB audio output to analog. Ground loops can occur when using a grounded (3-prong plug) computer as the power source. Please see the Related Items section for the Axxess 3.5 mm ground loop isolator to solve this issue if it occurs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brings New Life to Old ConsoleI purchased two of these little units. Wow, much smaller than I imagined, but that's good. Shipping and service was excellent, as usual from Parts Express. The first one of these got installed into a mid-1970s Magnavox Console stereo unit in my parlor, which also feeds remote speakers in my kitchen. The console has AM-FM, 8-Track, a turntable, and also has an "AUX" input available. I opened the console, and found a point on the function selector switch that moves 15 Volts around for different functions, and wired a 7805 regulator to activate when the switch hits the "AUX" position. I mounted the 7805 to the stereo's "STK" output IC heatsink, which is over-sized, doesn't get very warm anyway. The 7805 then powers up the BT-1A module, which has its audio outputs patched into the RCA "AUX" input jacks on the back of the console. How it works: Just select "AUX" on the front panel, then you hear the voice prompts from the BT-1A to connect with your computer. I had some issues with connection using a laptop with Windows 8, but did finally get it to work. My son's iPod, and my wife's Galaxy phone had no problems at all connecting to this. It works just great. My wife loves it, since now she can listen to her streaming programs on her phone while she's in the kitchen, using the kitchen speakers. That is about a 30 foot haul through 1 wall for the bluetooth, but it works. As for the reports of severe over-driven distortion that some reviews have mentioned, keep in mind that this is LINE LEVEL output. I would bet an ice cream cone that those who had severe distortion were trying to plug it into a "Phono" input. Phono level, it is not.The next one of these modules is set to be installed on the "Paging" input of my 1966 Seeburg Jukebox!!! Should be fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and EasyI purchased this receiver to put in a homemade boob box that I am currently making and it is just what I need for adding wireless connecting to transfer music. I hooked up the receiver, the LED light came on, and it showed up within a second on the Iphone "devices" list to be able to connect to then connected no problem. The module did not distort the music at all and I hope it lasts for a long time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed! Was looking for a device that you didn't need to fuss with pressing a button every time you got in your car. And I found it on Parts Express! This allows me to get into my car and just go to my playlist or fave station on my phone and instant music!! No extra buttons to hold down for pairing, or on/off just automatic music. Now I just need someone to tell me exactly how to wire a steps own power supply to it from a 12v source so I can bypass my cigarette lighter I'd be golden!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great but would like to see a newer version!First of all these modules work flawlessly, are compact and easy to integrate. The only downside is that I make Bluetooth speakers for techy people and on more than one occasion have been asked what version of Bluetooth and a techy doesn't want to hear "v1.2", he wants to hear "v3.0 or v4.0" whether it makes a difference in sound or options doesn't matter. So, long story short, a v3.0 would be nice. I've ordered a few from China but I would be willing to pa a few bucks more to get it from Parts Express.

I have a motorcycle and I am adding a frint fairing with an amp and speakers.  Can I add this BT unit directly to the amp via headphone to RCA cables and to the lowlevel input of the amp? I would then pair it to my phone for straming music.

I have a BT-1 i recently found laying around. it connects, but only plays a second or two of music then stops. tried 2 different power supplies and amps, but i only have 1 source to test with, same results. do i have a defective unit?

Asked by: hanlonmi

I've never been able to get the range of this thing beyond about 5-10 feet (for computers or phones).  I even soldered a wire (friend's recommendation) to the antenna, and it helped nothing... Most reviews don't have this problem.  Do I have a bad unit?

Asked by: T Lee D
It is possible you have a bad unit. Please contact our tech support for more help with this question, or 800-338-0531 x1.

What is the mechanism for connecting this device to a stereo receiver with Left:Right (red:white) inputs? I take it it also requires a power source. Would an apple two prong -> USB connector work?

Asked by: larh
This has a standard 3.5mm stereo output, so any 3.5mm male to RCA cable will work for connecting this to a pair of line level RCA inputs. Any standard 5v USB charger will power this unit.
