Product Details

Parts Express BT-1A Bluetooth Receiver Module for Wireless Reception of Bluetooth Audio Signals

The BT-1A module builds upon the success of the orignal BT-1 Bluetooth audio receiver, and improves upon it by moving the power and audio connections on-board (2.5 x 1 mm power jack and stereo 3.5 mm audio jack), reducing the overall size of the module, and adding voice prompts for pairing and connection instructions.

The BT-1A is designed to integrate wireless Bluetooth audio from smartphones, tablets, or laptops into speakers and subwoofers, car audio applications, and remote wireless amplifiers. Additionally, this module may be used to create a wireless link between a Bluetooth source and a traditional amplifier, receiver, preamplifier, or mixer.

Features of this Bluetooth v1.2 compliant receiver module include a small form factor, a Class 2 range of up to 15 meters (49.2 feet), and 16-bit A2DP support for true stereo output. A USB A-Male to 2.5 x 1 mm power plug cable and a stereo 3.5 mm male plug to 3.5 mm jack extension cable are included with the module for quick connection and use. The USB A-Male plug is used as a power connection that uses 5 VDC off of the USB bus from a computer or powered USB hub.

Specifications: • Supply voltage: 3.3 to 5.0 VDC • Supply current: 50 mA • Operating frequency: 2.4 to 2.483 GHz • Bluetooth specification: v1.2 • Output power class: Class 2 • Receiver sensitivity: -80 dBm • Output level: 1V RMS • Output impedance: 1k ohm • Frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz (-3 dB) • Sampling: 44.1 kHz, 16-bit • Signal-to-noise ratio: 70 dB • THD: < 0.1% @ 1 kHz • Dynamic range: 85 dB • Channel separation: 65 dB • PCB dimensions: 3/4" W x 2-1/2" L • Includes 12" USB power cable and 18" stereo male to stereo female audio cable • Audio output cable length: 18".

Note: This device only receives stereo Bluetooth audio. The USB cable included is only for powering the BT-1A. This device does not transmit a Bluetooth signal, and does not convert the digital USB audio output to analog. Ground loops can occur when using a grounded (3-prong plug) computer as the power source. Please see the Related Items section for the Axxess 3.5 mm ground loop isolator to solve this issue if it occurs.

Parts Express BT-1A Bluetooth Receiver Module for Wireless Reception of Bluetooth Audio Signals
Parts Express BT-1A Bluetooth Receiver Module for Wireless Reception of Bluetooth Audio Signals is rated 4.1463 out of 5 by 41.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my projectRange in line-of-sight exceeded my expectations. Using this for 3W stereo speakers built for camping and patio use. Stereo seperation is good, as is audio frequency transmission. Pairing is simple the first time a new device is introduced and automatic on subsequent connections. The audio fidelity is surprisingly good. Several friends want the same system, so I'll be buying additional units with no reservations.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed results, mostly dissapointedI bought 2 of these units (not at the same time) about 2-3 years ago. The first one I bought worked decently, but the range was nowhere near what was advertised. The second one I bought had been sitting in storage until just recently when I decided to use it for a project. The second one worked great, and I was able to get fantastic range from it (a good 30-50 feet). But then it just randomly died - the power LED won't come on at all, it is just completely dead. Not sure what happened. The second one was awesome until it died. The voice prompt recordings to pair the device are pretty annoying like others have mentioned. While they were working the sound quality was pretty good. There was some high pitched background noise but during normal listening it was not audible. If you have your volume cranked up during a quiet passage of music you would definitely hear it though. Both of my units had this same issue.I'd like to assume I just got a couple of defective units based on all the good reviews, but maybe the other reviews are just from people that have not owned this item as long as I have if there are long term reliability issues? These are well past the warranty period so I couldn't return them, I think even the first one I used had been sitting around long enough before I used it that it was out of warranty. That's the downside to buying cool stuff for someday projects that you don't use right away I guess.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Voice Prompts a Deal BreakerI bought this to to stream music to one of my amplifiers but the voice prompt is on as long as the device is on and not synced to a device. Very frustrating. I wanted to use this device as a second option, not a main method of connecting audio but that is impossible with the voice recording.Huge deal breaker as it fits all of my other requirements. Unless this is all you will be using for audio, look elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool, product, though voice prompts are irritatingSystem is nice. Small, just works, pairs quickly. But the aggressive voice prompts are irritating. I would be happy with "Phone connected" but prompts to pair phone are really unnecessary,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works goodSo far it's working I'm testing it out on some ear muffs seeing how long the battery will last. It will run off a li-ion battery. I did desodered the connections so I could wire it to a 2.7w amp. I will be buying more so I can Bluetooth everything :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great customer service. The BT-1A is a fairly decent product with pretty good value. However, the blue tooth module I ordered turned out to be defective. I sent an email inquiring about the possible defect and Parts Express responded immediately and sent out a replacement module without being prompted. Parts Express has always been super helpful, polite, and cordial when ever I have contacted them. Thanks for the great service!

Parts Express BT-1A Bluetooth Receiver Module for Wireless Reception of Bluetooth Audio Signals

Does Parts Express have a driver to pair this device with a PC.  Pairs with computer, but cannot find drivers to enable audio playback.

Asked by: CaseofBass
Certain Bluetooth chipsets used on PCs do not stream audio. Find out what Bluetooth chipset your PC uses (via Device Manager) and google it for help. If it does not stream audio, you can always buy an USB Bluetooth dongle which does. You may fiddle with some universal drivers, but I did it once and not only it did not work, but my Bluetooth mouse didn't work after that, so I would not advise doing it.Hope that helpsDiego

I have a motorcycle and I am adding a frint fairing with an amp and speakers.  Can I add this BT unit directly to the amp via headphone to RCA cables and to the lowlevel input of the amp? I would then pair it to my phone for straming music.

Asked by: HDRDKing
Yes this will work find for that application.

I've never been able to get the range of this thing beyond about 5-10 feet (for computers or phones).  I even soldered a wire (friend's recommendation) to the antenna, and it helped nothing... Most reviews don't have this problem.  Do I have a bad unit?

Asked by: T Lee D
It is possible you have a bad unit. Please contact our tech support for more help with this question, tech@parts-express.com or 800-338-0531 x1.

What is the mechanism for connecting this device to a stereo receiver with Left:Right (red:white) inputs? I take it it also requires a power source. Would an apple two prong -> USB connector work?

Asked by: larh
This has a standard 3.5mm stereo output, so any 3.5mm male to RCA cable will work for connecting this to a pair of line level RCA inputs. Any standard 5v USB charger will power this unit.
