Parts Express 1/4"-20 Hurricane Nuts 50 Pcs.

One-of-a-kind blind nut that offers extremely simple installation and outstanding holding power. The unique fluted design of the Hurricane nut allows it to be inserted simply with a hammer or by pulling in with a screw. Unlike conventional T-nuts, the Hurricane nut goes into wood easily without the pressures that it may take to get conventional teeth fully seated. But don't let the small flutes fool you, these nuts can hold at torques that you simply cannot imagine. You have to see the performance for yourself to believe their effectiveness! Once you use a Hurricane nut, you will never go back to an ordinary T-nut. Recommended hole size is 5/16".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy and easy to useI've been using the old style t nuts for years and they almost never work properly in hard woods or composites. These hurricane nuts twist up and into the wood as you tighten which helps sink the nut in further and firmer and they don't fall out when you remove the fastener which is a huge benefit . You also don't need a lot force to get these seated. They work better in harder woods, composites, or plastic. They do tend to strip out in softer woods but this can be helped by using a smaller than suggest drill size to force more surface area onto nut. I don't believe I'll be using t nuts anymore.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad threads on several pieces caused headachesThree out of sixteen nuts I used for installing a two woofers had bad threads and caused binding with the screws. This made the nut spin in the enclosure when the screw was tightened, making it nearly impossible to remove the woofer. Make sure to chase the threads with a tap before you install these or buy better quality nuts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for several current and future projectsI am using this product for alignment sleeves on a project for a middle school robotics club. I needed to join three sections on each side of a 12' x 12' enclosure. Alignment dowels were needed so the latches wouldn't slip. I used hanger bolts (ground on one side) for dowels so the students wouldn't lose small pieces between the frequent setups and teardowns. The Hurricane Nuts worked perfectly for this application. They are rugged and look good. I mounted them flush and used Gorilla glue for added strength. (Time will tell if they will stand up to middle school student abuse.) I also used them on a lanyard jig I made for a friend and intend to use them on another in-progress project (display case coffee table).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from T-Whats? Seriously get the Hurricane nutsI had previously went with t-nuts in a previous 4 18" sub installation and kept finding myself searching for my pliers to hold the nuts while it has to spin all the way in. When mounting the subs I had a 50/50 chance the t-nut would just spin freely after doing this due to the spikes just digging into mdf and creating a ring. Then when removing the bolt sometimes the things just dropped out. I switched over to the hurricane nuts with great success and seriously won't ever look back. I went to grab my pliers to hold the nut and said to myself "nah, lemme try it first". So I held the end with a single finger and started drilling in the bolt. The moment the bolt pulled the hurricane nut far enough to touch the wood it gripped and pulled all the way through without issue! I took an impact gun and it literally just kept sinking in to the wood! The washers I used crunched in further and further with each hit of the impact gun. These things are just phenomenal for mounting large subwoofers. The only flaw in them is when trying to mount close to a wall you have to trim a bit of wood for clearance, but that's a small price for something that won't budge after installing. It gives me piece of mind knowing that if I ever want to swap my subs out I don't have to ever worry about retapping holes because some cheap wood screws stripped out my box, or the head snapped off from over exertion of the subs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product does the job(.)The Hurricane nut overcomes the use of excessive force required to set a "T Nut" and avoids the splitting of the wood around the "T Nut" cleats. I like the 1/4 20 threads also especially for toe spikes. The Hurricane nut tends to set more squarely in the work piece thus reducing cross threading and possible twisting of a "T Nut" in a blind installation.Hint for all blind nut installations - pre thread the screws and the nuts before setting the nuts, but take care for the sharp parts. Always use leather work gloves or pliers to grasp these products.

Can anyone recommend a black screw for a 1 1/2" baffle? The driver is a Dayton RSS390HO-4 flush mounted.

Asked by: Ryanmn

will these nuts work with HiVi B3N, and Dayton Audio ND25FA-4 1"? or do you recommend other nuts. What screws to use? (to be mounted in solid wood, not ply or mdf.

Asked by: univer
Unfortunately no, we do not have any machine sized screws or hurricane nuts that will work for these drivers. A #6 should work, although drivers this small do not require the added strength of a hurricane or T-nut. I would recommend standard #6 wood screws for this application, especially when using hardwood.

The diameter of the shaft is 5/16". The length of the shaft is 1/2". The flange should be about 5/8" in diameter.
