NTE Stranded 18 AWG Hook-Up Wire Red 25 ft. is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good ChoiceI just needed some generic wire for internal speaker wire/hook-ups and this has proven itself time and again. Takes the heat from the soldering iron well and is pliable enough when it's warm. Long runs can get a little tangled because it is spooled so tight. But what would you expect?

NTE Stranded 18 AWG Hook-Up Wire Red 25 ft.

I am building a small 1x10" vented bass guitar cab with an Eminence BP102 (max 200 watts @ 8 ohms) & an internal volume of ~2 cu ft. How would I calculate the gauge wire to use to hook-up this speaker to the terminal cup?

Asked by: rrs209
Ohms law. Watts/Volts = Amps. 16AWG will work

Using this in Crossover Builds?

I wanted a Larger Gauge wire with high silver content to use in my crossover networks between Capacitors, resistors, and inductors. I did see you had a 14 gauge wire, but the reviews werent very good. Anyone have a 14 or 12 gauge wire, Black and Red? that I can use other than this 18 gauge?
Asked by: Strader
There is a lot of nonsense about wire going on. The most important factor is using the right gauge and using stranded copper. (The reason in speaker runs is that the longer the run there is signal loss due to change in impedance.) For a high end crossover, use silver solder, large gauge stranded copper wire, and for the tweeter, if a ribbon or planar - you can optionally use silver wire. Similar if you use a planar mid. Mind you the differences are subtle and you must use the best high current capacitors and large gauge inductors as well. Then if your amp/pre-amp and sources aren't very high end - well as they say garbag in / garbage out... Have fun

Can I use this wire in my crossover networks ?

I am using the NTE Stranded 18 AWG Hook-Up Wire Red 25 ft. Is this tin coated stranded wire ok for use in my crossover networks? I am using the red and black where needed.
Asked by: Strader
I don't see why not. 18 AWG wire should stand up to the high power needs of speakers. The main thing to consider is the quality of parts in the crossover. If you are using standard quality parts (ex: electrolytic caps, 18 or 20 AWG air core inductors) then I wouldn't hesitate to use this wire.If you have spent hundreds on extreme quality parts for the crossover, then I might use some better wire such as pure silver or something, but as an audio realist, I don't see any downside to using 18 AWG stranded wire. I happen to personally like the NTE brand also.
