What in specific does it do? Does help the sound for a turntable old ) LPs records?
This is a speaker cable connector designed to connect (typically) pro sound speakers to amplifiers. They are used as modern replacements to 1/4" cables in most cases because they lock and are very durable.

Portable Speaker Project
I am building a speaker project which will consist of three parts. A box with a sub and power controls, and two bookshelf speakers each of which will also have a small 12V battery in them. Can I send the audio signal through two of the conductors and power through the other two? Also, What gauge of wire does this connector support? It says above it will take somewhere between 6mm and 14mm wire... looking at a chart that translates to anywhere between 2 Gauge and up to 0000 wire. Thats big wire and doesnt sound right... that would be bigger than the connector itself... So any help on that would be great too.Lastly, I imagine it is not possible to cross the contacts over when connecting the jack to the plug. There is only one correct way to connect the jack to the plug meaning if I have power on two of the conductors and audio on the other two, they will never be crossed over ruining my equipment.
These connectors are not rated to carry electrical energy from a wall outlet per the Neutrik description. The 6 mm - 14 mm dimensions you mentioned refer to the outside diameter of the cable this connector will accommodate. For power applications please search Neutrik powerCon on the PE website to find the configuration to fit your application. We typically use 12AWG wire in this connector which is for our high powered sub setup.Internally the connector will have four poles which will be marked 1+,1-, and 2+, 2-. After you complete the wiring please make sure to do a continuity test to insure no wires are crossed.Good luck with your project.
