MTX Monitor 60i Dual 6-1/2" 2-Way MTM Bookshelf Speaker Pair

The MTX Monitor 60i power-packed bookshelf speaker is a great addition to any high performance system. Engineered from the ground up for accurate sound and exceptional imaging in real world situations, the Monitor 60i is in line with the high standards of performance expected from MTX. The Monitor 60i produces superior sound quality from a surprisingly small source. It features two 6-1/2" polypropylene woofers with rubber surrounds and a 19 mm PEI dome tweeter in a D'Appolito array, a unique design for a high output bookshelf. This arrangement reduces the unwanted reflective sound from floors and ceilings with a controlled vertical dispersion. Plus, with the dual woofers in a common, vented enclosure, the Monitor 60i has a much lower bass extension, higher power handling, and higher efficiency than single woofer bookshelf speakers. Sold in pairs.

MTX Monitor 60i Dual 6-1/2" 2-Way MTM Bookshelf Speaker Pair
MTX Monitor 60i Dual 6-1/2" 2-Way MTM Bookshelf Speaker Pair is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal as part of a configurationI purchased this set for under $500 total:DAYTON AUDIO SUB-1200 12" 120 WATT POWERED SUBWOOFERMTX MONITOR 60I DUAL 6-1/2" 2-WAY BOOKSHELF SPEAKER PAIRMTX MONITOR 6C DUAL 6-1/2" 2-WAY CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKERMTX MONITOR 5I 5-1/4" 2-WAY BOOKSHELF SPEAKER PAIRI’m not an expert, but from my perspective, this (or similar) configuration is all you need for a good size family room. My family room is 20’ by 13’ and it fully opens to a kitchen of the same size (all speakers are set up in the room itself). I can now hear the music load and clear, even in the kitchen. In my experience, a more difficult challenge for speaker systems is to be able to hear a conversation from a TV program at a longer distance. With this set, I can also hear a conversation from a TV load and clear (!) even when doing something in the kitchen in a distance of about 40’ (and I have some hearing difficulty). BTW, a 100 Watt subwoofer might have been sufficient, but the price was the same at the time, so I bought 120 Watts. It seems that buying this type of configuration is a better deal than a Home Theater Speaker System. However, make sure you have enough space for the speakers (pretty large) and space on the floor for the subwoofer, which is large and heavy (you may need to explain to your spouse that it just needs to be like that :-)).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Attractive Price, OK SoundThey say the best way to listen to a speaker pair is to close your eyes and listen, but the best way to listen to these is to close your ears and listen. Sometimes people get a little excited when they hear sound coming from a box and don't listen to it critically. The crossover in these speakers is a poor match to the drivers (at best). Its actually cheaper to buy these and a crossover than to buy a good speaker, so that is a great idea if you're on a budget. That will get you good results, but its the only way to get them! I'm starting experiments with the speakers to determine how to fix their "horn like" sound, but so far, a total crossover replacement seems the only option. Contacting MTX tech support got the good ole "Oh wow nobody else has ever said anything" routine, which was mildly amusing. In the end, they probably make great surround speakers, maybe even paired up to be a center channel speaker. NO WAY should you use these as main speakers because they are ANYTHING but a flat response!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great as main speaderBought as speaker for bedroom flat screen tv small size but great sound . I compared to my Klepsch 2.2. speakers that also have two 6 inch bass speakers. They sound very close at half the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good valueNot quite as much low end as I'd hoped for but the speaker does deliver, what is there, cleanly. Nice sturdy binding posts and the craftsmenship seems very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-Fidelity speakerHigh-Fidelity quality sound. And since these have a sensitivity of 92dB they will play loud with little amplifier effort so they will make a lower powered system sound big without sounding strained or straining the amplifier.Would also do very well as a stand alone bookshelf stereo system and as a surround speaker too.Bought these to match the MTX 6C Center and the timbre is matched perfectly.Superior build quality too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Sound for SizeI actually came across the 60is at an H.H. Gregg sitting on the 'floor model' sale table. They were priced at $100 for a pair which I thought was a very good price for MTX equipment. To match, I purchased an Onkyo TX-SR304 receiver and Yamaha YST-SW216 10" side-firing subwoofer and was much impressed. The frequency curve of these MTX bookshelf speakers is very flat until about 180 Hz where it begins to roll off. Highs are crisp and mids are fairly warm although sometimes underrepresented. Soundstage is not very large, however, as these units benefit GREATLY from being raised to listening level. An excellent pair of bookshelf units for a den or surrounds for home theater, but shouldn't be used as front channels for a good-sized system.
