Morel MW-1075 10" Woofer
Morel MW-1075 10" Woofer is rated 4.6667 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little odd, but superb when used the right wayThis woofer is unusual because of its high Q and the units I got had even higher Q than the specs indicate - somewhere around 1.0. Most people don't know what to do with a speaker like that, except stick it in an oversize sealed box. I put it in a 70 liter passive radiator box tuned to 30Hz. That is truly an odd configuration. If you graph it you'll see the 30Hz is a low tuning and you get a 5-6dB peak at around 65Hz. I used a MiniDSP digital crossover to equalize it flat and make it a 6th order active vented system. I used the Parts Express 12" passive radiator. The result is extremely wide dynamic range down to 25 Hz (even though the Xmax on this woofer is sort of average), high SPL efficiency in the 50-80Hz bass region, and the robust, well-built "punishment proof" durability that Morel is famous for. This woofer is equally adept whether you're playing Vivaldi softly or cranking AC/DC.The other virtue is the extremely smooth midrange and easy integration with the Peavey Versarray ribbon tweeter (which is made by Fountek). It is very rare to have a 2 way system with such a large woofer integrate so seamlessly with a tweeter like this and have such creamy transparent midrange. Better midrange than most 3-ways.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great woofer for large sealed enclosuresI bought two of these woofers in 1997 to build my own three way stereo speakers in sealed boxes, crossing over to the mid at 400 hz. Recently, investigating performance issues, I found that the foam surrounds had deteriorated, and I needed to replace them, To my surprise, they are still available, with what appears to be an upgraded surround material. I jumped on the chance to order two new ones, since I was very pleased with the originals. The new ones sound as outstanding as the first once did. a long time ago. They do require large sealed cabinets to be at their best, but the results are amazing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome 10Morel is shipping these with rubber surrounds, not the older type treated foam. It's an awesome speaker. Very smooth midrange, tight and focused bass end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great woofer but...be sure to get the newer driver with the rubber surround. The originals, (probably NLS) use a foam surround which deteriorates fairly rapidly (about 6 years). It's not easy to have them refoamed because they are a low volume product and many shops are not willing to work on them. I was able to get new MW-1077s at half price so that's the way I went for replacements and why they don't get perfect 5s.That out of the way, I have really enjoyed these woofers in a sealed DIY 3 way x-over to a MD-55 2" soft dome midrange, and 1" soft dome scanspeak 2905. The bass is a very tight with lots of detail driven by a Musial Fidelity Nu-Vista 300. This is the kind of bass I like - not sloppy like most ported designs. X-Max is pretty tight on these drivers so be sure to tightly seal and fill your enclosure. If you do, you'll be amply rewarded with clear low bass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good bass articulationUsed this woofer in a high-power 3-way design with a 3.18 cu. ft.sealed cabinet for an F3 of 35 Hz. I would recommend that you use 100% loose-filled acousta stuf to control back pressure and limit excursion. Bass response is very natural and articulate and is smooth enough to cross over at 800 Hz. to a dome midrange. Be sure cabinet size is accurate because it cannot be used in a ported enclosure unless the volume is well over 10 cu. ft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent driverThis is an excellent driver for use in a COBSS speaker system, sub or full range unit.

Morel MW-1075 10" Woofer

Could the Morel 1075 be used in an open baffle application?

Asked by: johnestes
Yes this will work well for an IB application but will be limited with output at low frequencies due to its low excursion.
