Morel MDT 29 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter
Morel MDT 29 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter is rated 4.6923 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good match for Grafyx SP8I own a pair of Grafyx SP8 speakers from around 1980. They have an 8 inch woofer and Phillips tweeters. The faceplates of the Phillips tweeters are cracking around the screws so it makes the tweeters buzz on big bass notes. The woofers have rubber surrounds and are still in excellent shape. The MDT 29 was a good match electrically and is the same diameter as the old tweeter, 94 mm. I wanted to keep the existing crossover because it uses high quality German made Frako capacitors. The sound is dramatically better, the Phillips tweeters have a mellow, laid back sound, but the Morels have much more definition without fatigue. The MDT 29 has a thinner faceplate so I had to put some rope caulk behind it to make it flush with the anti-diffraction mounting plate of the SP8. Also, you need to remove a little wood to make room for the terminals for the MDT 29. Five minutes with a Dremel tool did the trick. I tried the Morel CAT 378 first, but it was a little too bright for my taste, it would probably work well in the Grafyx SP 10 if you like to rock out. I would like to try a slightly better tweeter, like the MDT-30S and see if the rear chamber makes a noticeable difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased - Would Definitely Buy Again.Used these for replacements in 1983 Design Acoustics PS-10 3-way speaker systems. The fit is very close to the original equipment, though I did have to mill (rasp) out an additional 1/16" clearance for the connectors and crimp them a bit tighter.IMO sound is even better than the original well reviewed tweeters. Though the soft dome is not recessed like the OE I think this actually improves dispersion. Response is crisp, clear, natural and very well balanced with the OE mid-woofers and crossovers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't go wrong tweeterMorel tweetrs are smooth sounding and easy to use especially with solid state. Very good power handling. A high quality tweeter like a Toyota or Honda can't go wrong. Ken Balog

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 25 year speaker upgrade-slightly overdueEven though I am a musician I got used to the sound of my speakers until the foam cone surrounds on my woofer and midrange fell to powder. I replaced all of them through Parts Express and built three-way crossovers as well, again using Parts Express. There is an aural presence that good tweeters present even before the music starts, you hear the "hall". The Morel MDT-29 tweeters supplied both that and fine highs, even to jazz guitar string noise which is a very good test. I am happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good for first order crossover use.Very good performing tweeter especially with the fluid removed. One of the very few tweeters that is ok to use with first order crossovers.Don't remove the fluid if you don't understand what will change in qes and fs.
