Morel ET 338-104 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter Matched Pair
Morel ET 338-104 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter Matched Pair is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every pennyDitto on the other 2 reviews for precise sound stage and stereo image. I have these in a TL paired with 6 1/2 Aurum Cantus AC-165, 24db electronic xover at 3K; this review is after owning these for a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So you are willing to open your wallet...I have been using these for over 2 years. I had been using the MDT-30's long time ago, but they were too expensive and not quite there with long term enjoyable tone. The sound stage with the 30's, 308's, and these are just leaps and bounds better than any of the the Vifa's I have tried including the "ring radiators" with the exception of the needs to be crossed at around 3k which limits it's usage in my 2 way designs. The new Morel 308's actually use the same dome material as the 338's. The reason I use the 338's is the ability of the 338's to use of a fairly low XO point of 2.25k at 12db. One of the main things that people err on is the power handling ratings at these somewhat low XO points. To me if these are crossed at 2.5k or higher they are being taxed too heavily for that range. In a 2 way(or MTM) I would not exceed 2.25k with a 6.5 woofer. You can got to 2.5k with a 5.5 or less diameter driver. I have actively crossed over these tweeters at those XO point with a 24db LR slope and they had tremendous power handling. I once in a while dabble with adding a cap in series to make it an 18bd xo, but you need to play with tweeter polarity to get it right. Keep in mind that XO calculators are a good start, but are not to be taken as set in stone. There are many other factors that come into play like Baffle design, and environment. Just because a speaker looks great and has an uber flat frequency response in a "perfect" testing chamber doesn't mean that it will sound as stunning in a room with reflections, and different building techniques. If you read through all of this and are still with me and understand what I have post without throwing a bunch of audiophile terms at you then you may very well understand the proper implementation of this driver. A so so driver with a proper XO will sound better than a great driver with a hap hazard XO. Also a note to newbies keep in mind if power handling is a concern then look at efficiency ratings of a driver. The 92.5db requires half the power as an 89.5db driver to put out the same SPL level. The inexpensive voice coil, dome replacement is a huge bonus. If you blow one you are back in business with a like new driver in less than 20 minutes.EnjoyBen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was hoping for.Worth every penny. The biggest benefit to these over the dms-30 and cat 308 and all the other morel tweeters I have used is the stereo imaging and sound stage. These tweeters really do rival those found in speakers costing many thousands of dollars. They are very detailed without harshness.

Morel ET 338-104 1-1/8" Soft Dome Tweeter Matched Pair

What is the difference between the MDT338 and MDT338-104?  I looks like the IDR (dispersion recess?) is 110mm and 104mm respectively, is that correct?  What impact does this have on the sound?  Thanks.

Asked by: feds27
The only difference is the faceplate diameter. The MDT-338 is 110mm, the -104 model is only 104mm. The smaller faceplate will allow for a slightly narrower baffle, but this will have very little affect on anything audibly.

What is the rms per tweeter?

Asked by: Foxx
Morel rates these at 200 watts rms. This would be assuming the correct crossover is used with it as well.

I am thinking of upgrading my infinity kappa 7's 1988 vintage and using this tweeter. would this be a good match for an upgrade with the orginal crossover.

Asked by: taz2112
As long as the impedance matches and you can get them mounted properly (cabinet may require a different hole size), they will certainly work. However I cannot say they will specifically be upgrades from the originals, this will be up to you personally.
