Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Theater monsterIve created a Home Theater monster in a WMTTMW deign... Based on specs, reviews and the 20% off I had to go with MOREL in the bass and midrange..The tweeters I always use the Daton PT2C-8 ...Similar designs by Martin Logan and Atlantic Technology were in the $1600-$1300 EACH price range WOW... ALL drivers for this L C R came in @ under $2500 ..throw in $600 for wood and supplies and we are just laughing we came out so far ahead with this DIY project...And I will put these up against ML or AT all day long....If your looking for cheap then MOREL is not for you.. These are high quality speakers and you get what you pay for though the DAYTON PT2C-8 are a ridiculous quality for $ value....I will post further reviews after we get the power amps... for these.. We saved so much money that we also built 2 subs to go with this system.. after the new subs were installed with a Crown XLS amp we had to velcro all the movie posters in the room to the wall to keep them from rattling..ALL together as I said we are just giddy.. His previous speakers, Sonance inwalls, have been swatted like gnats... Again I HIGHLY recommend MOREL and the DAYTON PT2C8 if your interested in spending more $$ and want a serious speaker system...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality wooferI purchased this woofer to replace one in my DBX Soundfield speakers. The sound quality is excellent. I think it is actually a higher quality woofer than DBX used.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice quality, limited choice in this sizeI used a pair of these to replace the woofers on my 20ish year old Boston Acoustics T830 floor speakers. Although they are clearly a big improvement over the woofers I replaced (foam surrounds disintegrated) I chose them because they were literally the only appropriate sized and rated units I could find. They sould very good, but with the degradation of the old ones I can't definatively say they work better. The surrounds on these protrude out the front enough that I couldn't install the front grilles back all the way. All in all though, I'd buy 'em again rather than replace the entire speakers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OUTSTANDINGI am using these drivers in the doors of my 4runner. My original plan was to use them as a dedicated midbass in my 3 way. After getting them installed, I am amazed at the output. They have the output of a very nice pair of 8 s and the sound quality of the bass is great. I like the output so much that I have considered not using a dedicated subwoofer. On that note you will need to be prepared to do some work on your doors. I spent around $230 on my doors to prep for these drivers and that included sound deadener, clay, birch wood, and acoustical foam. If you want good clean Sound Quality bass then these are for you!

How much power can these handle at their lowest freq? They are rated at 150rms, but at what frequency, 30hz? 40hz? I recently purchased some drivers that are rated at 80rms, and can say from experience that they can not handle more than 40rms at 30hz.

Asked by: btucker
Assuming it is in the optimal vented or sealed enclosures, this driver will run out of Xmax at about 80 Hz with full RMS power.

What would be typical enclosure volume for a midbass aplication, also could these be used in an infinite baffel aplication as well?

Asked by: Bonewah
The Morel drivers are VERY high end. Integrated correctly, they will out perform speakers that retail for $1000 minimum. Look up an online "speaker box calculator" and plug in the specs. For the best performance in a sealed box - specify a total Qts of .707 for flat response. You can play with the numbers and see the different response curves. Make sure to build a very solid cabinet as well. Think 1" high density MDF or similar with a thicker front baffle and internal bracing. As for infinite baffle - No. There are drivers for that - but this is not one of them.

box dimensions

I am lost on the box dimensions for two of these. I am using winISD and seems like the best would be 10.511 cubic feet with a tuning freq of 22.23. With a port set at 6.8 inches wide length of 14.31 inches. That seems way large.

The numbers are not out of line. If you look at the PE woofer selection guide, and compare the MW266 and MW1075 - you will see that these drivers require a lot of volume. I have used the MW164 extensively, and it's an incredible driver in a small sealed box. Mind you at the low efficiency you should use 2 for better SPLs. Morel makes some of THE best mid bass and bass drivers around. Do take a look at using them only down to 50 - 80 hz. You'll have much more flexibility. And a sub makes sense at that point. Hope this helps.
