Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great productMy intention was to get better sound when listening to music on my pc.After listening to several computer speakers I just couldn't find any that impressed me so I decided to put together my own system. I followed the advise of another reviewer and bought this amp and the 12v 5a power supply separately. I paired this set up with a pair of Dayton Audio B652's and I am blown away.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lepai LP-2020A+This little amp is driving four large Klipsch speakers (configured to present an 8 ohm load) in a medium room to moderate levels and have an efficiency rating of 102db.  I have been involved in audio for many years and consider myself an audiophile. I can tell you the sound  produced by the LP-2020A+ is nothing less than spectacular IMO, I am getting plenty of volume to sensible levels without clipping. However you will not be able to attain this volume if your driving a difficult load and would recommend efficient speakers that are rated at 8 ohms. In this regard this amp will give the big boys a run for their money up to a certain level. So this IMO makes the LP-2020A the greatest bargain on the internet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOWA couple of weeks ago I fixed my old SPL Speakers using 4 GRS 8PR-8 8" Poly Cone Rubber Surround Woofer running then with a 2 watt per channel muti media set up for my computer and that sounded good but just added the Lepai 2020A amp without the power supply…all I can say is WOW... bought the 5A power supply for $16.00…and this thing cranks out the SLP volumes….get this little work horse you will not be disappointed....this amp sounds great to me but the next door neighbor not so much...LOL

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This little puppy rocks!Like most everyone here, I too am quite impressed with the output (read sound quality) of this little amp. That being said, and like a few people have noticed (and commented), I too find it odd that the engineers couldn't figure out a way to ensure that there's no "volume reduction" when (and if) both inputs are connected/used simultaneously. And that's probably the only reason why I gave it 4 stars (and not 5).Check out (below) some of the things I've done with this amp:

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better without the stock power supplyI got the LP-2020A+ a while back with the stock 2A power supply. It sounded perfect at low volume levels, but if I cranked it up, the power supply just couldn't keep up. Distortion would set in, and if I turned it up loud enough, a big bass hit would send the power supply into overcurrent protection. I replaced the stock power supply with a 12V 3.3A power supply and all these problems went away.Even with a properly sized power supply, this amp still has some shortcomings. The volume knob on mine felt a bit rough and it produced a loud pop on the line in when turned on. I had multiple amplifiers in my system and had to make sure this amp was always turned on first and off last. I'm not sure how I would have handled this if I were using multiple LP-2020A+ amplifiers. I'll probably buy another one the next time I have a need for a small utility amplifier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've used 10 or more of these, no problems at all.Great sound, quality, tone. Without the power supply (inadequate when bought with the amp) and using a 14V 3 amp or better power supply, this amp really sings! I'll keep using them until they quit making 'em.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No power supply!!!Shame on me for not reading as this comes without a power supply. No wondr it is so cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get this one, not the one with adapter included!I know exactly what you're thinking. "This one doesn't come with a power supply? Why would anyone buy this instead of spending a few more dollars on the one that actually works out of the box?"I'll tell you why. Because the the power supply that comes with the other one is no good. It's a 12V 2A power supply, which means that at the very most it can draw 24 watts, which means that the most the amp can deliver is 10 watts per channel, probably closer to 8. If you're using 6 ohm speakers, you probably get 6 watts per channel, and with 4 ohm speakers, probably less than 4 watts. This makes clipping incredibly easy. It will distort at pretty much any volume above 3.The amp is designed to take 5 amps, so buy this one and then spend ten dollars on a 12V 5A power supply. This will allow the device to deliver the full 20 watts per channel as advertised, and will reduce clipping and distortion. You'll end up spending a little bit more, but a good power supply basically supercharges this amp.

I've hooked the amp up to a wi-fi router and plan to leave it turned on. How man watts will it draw when not in use?

Asked by: nsmart
While I don't have an exact figure for you, this amplifier will draw less power than a normal clock radio when in standby mode.

This just arrived today, and played nicely for ten minutes. But then it started just blinking steadily with no output. The weird thing is the green light on the power supply is pulsing too at the same time. Even if nothing plugged in, blinks…. What to do?

I am running:  2 x Dayton Audio RS52AN-8 2" Dome Midrange 2 x Dayton Audio DA175-8 7" Aluminum Cone Woofer 1 x Goldwood GT-302/S 1/2" Mylar Dome Tweeter Shielded Is the Lepai 2020+ a well suited amp for these speakers? Or need +power?

Asked by: Big_Al
This will power a pair of those without a problem, but whether you will need more power is determined by how loud you want them to play. At low levels you shouldn't need more power, but if you ever want to turn them up a bit we would recommend more power.

Will this amp do ok running a pair of 3 ohm Kenwood 6X9's while running off a 7ah sealed lead-acid battery?

Asked by: SonicXtasy
I am sorry, this amplifier is only rated to drive loads of 4 ohms or higher. A 3 ohm load may cause damage.

Hi There, in the rear I have 2 x 6" x 9" Pioneer 240W Max 40W nominal 4 Ohm Impedance speakers and two smaller speakers in the front of the car. is this powerful enough to power this system? otherwise is there a better alternative? Cheers Stephen

Asked by: Stephen11111
This amplifier will only safely power two 4 ohm speakers. You may want to look at the 4x45 watt Lepai which you can see below.

Would Parts Express have a cigarette car charger that can be plugged directly into this amp? If so, does anyone have the part number?

Asked by: LarsTheDrummer
We do offer a DC to DC converter which has 2 amp output capability, although you can probably just get a standard cigarette lighter plug wired to a 2.1mm x 5.5mm plug as well, since the amp accepts 12V input.

Why is this thing drawing 100 ma with no sound?

I bought a class-T because I thought it would be super efficient for my camper, which has a 12-volt system and solar charger. But it draws 100 ma on idle, music at the level I am comfortable with hardly raises it any higher. Prior to purchase I viewed a video on class-T and it hardly moved the ammeter with no sound out. Problem? It works fine, sounds good, burns 1.2 watts doing NOTHING!! Bluetooth input from iPhone.
Asked by: Ebasco
100mA, this "thing" needs at least 2000mA (2A) and 5000mA (5A) for full output

Power Supply and Power Output

The TA2020 chip's datasheet specifies 18WPC@13.5V, and 25WPC@14.6V, with both at a high 10%THD+N.There's no mention of 12V – I'm guessing 20WPC goes heavily over 10%THD+N...Here's my question: has anyone tested a 16V PSU? Would it be stable? Thanks!

Are the aux and RCA jacks combined inside the amp?

That is to say, if I'm inputting something through the AUX jack, will the RCA jack then act as an output? Or vice versa? I'm wondering because it would be nice to have output to a headphone amplifier. Thanks!

Can I run 4 of these amps simultaneously from one 12 volt 20 amp switching power supply?

I love these little amps and have used them for all kinds of applications over the past couple of years. I want to use 4 of them to control a simple 4 zone system around a large deck and pool. Running them from a single power supply vs. 4 x separate 5 amp bricks would make for a much cleaner install. I tested a couple of these on my Dayton Audio outdoor speakers and they sounded great and were more than loud enough. I want to use them to replace a Sherwood RX-5502 dual zone amplifier that recently died after 2 years of use in a hot and humid pool house in Georgia (frankly I was surprised that it lasted as long as it did since I was definitely exceeding the recommended environmental limits). The Sherwood sounded great, but I did not really use any features other than the power amp, and I was always afraid that it would be too attractive to thieves. I also did not like that I could not easily control the volume of each zone independently from the amplifier. With the Lepai amplifiers, I can bolt them down to a stud, have independent volume and power controls for each zone (for less than the price of a good external volume control!), and if one of them happens to die, I can replace just the 1 x dead amplifier for $20 rather than the entire $150 amp. Thanks!
Asked by: Ilbianco
Yes 20 amps will be plenty for four of these amplifiers. There will be no problem with this setup.
