Product Details

Knock-Down MDF 4.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO Subwoofer

Even the easiest do-it-yourself subwoofer can turn into an arduous project; from uneven cuts, to measuring mistakes. CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills. This cabinet is designed for speaker builders and designers who don't have access to expensive tools or a woodshop.

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series High Output subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 18-3/16" or less, and a cutout requirement of 16-3/4" or less. The sealed enclosure design creates a subwoofer system with a Qtc of 0.644 and an f3 of 40 Hz when used with the Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4 and minimal fill. Adding five pounds of Acousta-Stuf will create a critically damped subwoofer system.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle. Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw and by modifying one of the braces.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 18" High Output Reference Series subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle and bracing): 4.0 cubic feet • External dimensions: 20" H x 23" W x 20.75" D • Subwoofer recess: 1/2" • Weight: 62 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

Knock-Down MDF 4.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO Subwoofer
Knock-Down MDF 4.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 18" Reference Series HO Subwoofer is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spend a little money, save a lot of timeThis enclosure went together flawlessly. I could have built it myself, but it would have taken the better part of a day. The CNC routered parts are nice, and everything is slotted / indexed. Tossing it together, carpeting it, and dropping in my JL 18W6 took about 3 hours with taking my time.As soon as I get the amplifiers wired, I'll drop it in the truck and see what it can do.

I would prefer a ported 18' enclosure.  What would be the easiest way to port this, or do you sell a ported 18 inch enclosure?

Asked by: kevings
Unfortunately we do not sell a ported enclosure for an 18. You will have to add a port to one of the sides or the back of the enclosure.

The description says "Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw". Obviously the size of that cutout is for a specific plate amp; does anyone know which one it is?

Asked by: jleonard711
This cutout will work with either the SPA500 or SPA1000 from Dayton Audio.

Would this box also be used for the now delayed UM18-22 ? If not is there going to be a bundle with the UM18-22 and a knock down cabinet for the new model?

Asked by: Haoleman
This volume will work well for the UM18 woofer, however the baffle will need to be modified to fit it. There is a good chance we will have a knock down enclosure for the 18" model when it is available.

How much Polyfill do you recommend stuffing this box with?

Asked by: Dan_K
A good rule of thumb is to use about a half pound of fill per cubic foot of airspace. You can then add or subtract from this amount until you get results you are happy with.

Am I able to install plate amp recessed in back?

Asked by: DesertWashProductions
Yes you can install a plate amp in the back of this cabinet although the bracing will have to be cut in order to fit it. This will not compromise the design.
