Knock-Down MDF 3.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio DVC385-88 15" DVC Subwoofer

Even the easiest do-it-yourself subwoofer can turn into an arduous project; from uneven cuts, to measuring mistakes. CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills. This cabinet is designed for speaker builders and designers who don't have access to expensive tools or a woodshop.

This particular cabinet is designed specifically for the Dayton Audio DVC385-88 15" DVC subwoofer, but works for any subwoofer with an overall diameter of 15-1/4" or less, and a cutout requirement of 14" or less. You can dial in performance from a Qtc of 0.632 with minimal fill for an f3 of 41 Hz, or add three pounds of Acousta-Stuf for a critically damped Qtc of 0.583 with an f3 of 44 Hz.

During the CNC manufacturing process, rabbets and dadoes are cut into the back panel for precise panel alignment. A unique two-piece brace adds superior rigidity without affecting the subwoofer's performance. Both side panels feature 3/4" rabbeted extensions with recesses to perfectly install the first piece of the two-part, double thick baffle. Plate amplifier installation is made easy by following the scribed interior guide with a jig saw and by modifying one of the braces.

The end result is a resonance-free, sealed subwoofer cabinet that is purpose-built to extract the best performance from Dayton Audio's 15" DVC subwoofer. All that's left to do is finish it to match your décor or paint it to stand out. When your friends ask about it, you get the pleasure of saying, "I built it myself!"

Specifications: • Panel thickness: 3/4", front baffle is 1-1/2" • Panel material: Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) • Finished net cabinet volume (subtracting the double thick baffle, bracing, and woofer volume): 3.0 cubic feet • External dimensions: 19.25" H x 19.25" W x 20" D • Subwoofer recess: 7/16" • Weight: 52 lbs. • Made in the U.S.A.

Knock-Down MDF 3.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio DVC385-88 15" DVC Subwoofer

I have a speaker that is precisely 15-1/4" outside diameter with a diameter of precisely 14" that is to recess into the cutout. The write up says the cabinet is made for speakers 15-1/4" or less OD and 14" or less cutout. So will this fit in this cabinet?

Asked by: TPK1
The recessed cutout for the DVC385 that this cabinet is designed for is 15.15", so there is a good chance the recess will have to be enlarged for a driver that measures 15.25".

Is it a bad idea to port this cabinet for a lower F3?

I find it somewhat strange that PE only sells a sealed 3ft^3 knock-down enclosure that yields an F3 of 41 Hz for a driver with a Qts of 0.36 and an Fs of 19 Hz. It would be nice to be able to buy a vented knock-down cabinet that takes better advantage of the low frequency capabilities of the driver.
Asked by: iEspresso
An F3 of 41 Hz is actually a very good modeled response. You can expect in room response to dip easily into the low 20's and even lower with a bit of EQ. You also will not have the pitfalls usually associated with a vented box, IE: no unloading below the tuning frequency. It is very difficult and generally not recommended to try and low tune a large woofer in such a small airspace. Most Dayton subwoofers are designed for sealed enclosures which is why we only offer sealed enclosure kits. Adding ports is up to the end user.

Allowance for the Sub-Amp?

I take it by looking at the pictures, that the scribe on the back wall of the enclosure is to accommodate a Subwoofer Plate Amp like the SPA250 or am I assuming too much? Thanks.
Asked by: Deuterom
Yes that is correct, these are designed to accept a plate amplifier.
