Product Details

Knock-Down MDF 0.56 cu. ft. Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet

CNC knock-down cabinets make it easy for the beginner to end up with amazing finished results without all of the time and effort necessary to perfect your woodworking skills, perfect for speaker builders who don't have expensive tools or access to a woodshop. Assembly literally takes minutes!

During the CNC process, dadoes are cut into the top, bottom, and rear of the side panels to ensure a secure fit while maximizing the gluing surface and making assembly easy. An optional window brace is included to offer rock-solid rigidity.

The front baffle features roundovers on the sides for a professional look while minimizing diffraction, and the entire cabinet is made of MDF for an acoustically inert effect on speakers. While designed to be a 0.56 cubic foot bookshelf cabinet, this enclosure can alternatively be laid upon its side for center channel use.

Note: Panel dimensions and a 3D SketchUp model are included in the Manuals/Resources section. To open and use the 3D model, you need to download and install a program to unzip the file (7-Zip is free and recommended) and then download and install SketchUp to open the .skp file.

Knock-Down MDF 0.56 cu. ft. Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent productCuts are precise and the box goes together easily. The only caveat is do not drop any of the panels while assembling as you may dent an edge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tremendous ValueI planned to buy 1 pair, but the $29 Sale Price persuaded me to buy 2 pair. The cuts are precise. The fit is excellent. I couldn't have done it better myself and the time saving was worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good design that perserve the fun of DIYThis is well thought out design with thick wall and brace. Much easier and may be cheaper than cutting MDF board myself. Assembly is simple due to the good layout, yet keep all the fun of DIY. A good size for vented box of midwoofers. It gets only 4 stars because the first set came damaged due to inproper packing. PE shipped out replacement quickly that came in good condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great intro to DIY speaker building and a cost-effective time saverThese pre-cut, unassembled panels sets allow the DIY speaker builder to build a great DIY system, without the need for a table saw and miter saw. This product also allows the DIY builder to enjoy the satisfaction of finishing or veneering his or her own cabinets. These unfinished cabinets are also a lot less expensive than prefinished cabinets. The panels are precisely cut, fit together perfectly and are ready for assembly with glue and clamps or with glue and screws for builders without clamps.Altough I do have all the necessary tools to fabricate enclosures from scratch, and these pre-cut panels are more expensive than using 4x8 sheets of MDF, I still find them to be a cost-effective time-saver for small projects and for driver measurement boxes.Cheers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little speaker boxI don't have any wood working tools and I thought this might be just what I needed for my first speaker project. I'm building a boom box using the DTA-2 amp and 6.5" car speakers. The speaker box went together really well with just wood glue although I do plan on securing with wood screws once I have everything to my liking. The pieces fit together very well and is nice and flush with each other. I'm a total novice and I'm just having the best time putting this project together. Thanks, Parts Express!

Grill Cover

Any suggestion on a easy grill cover?
Asked by: keilau
I am waiting for delivery of my order of a pair. Building the grill from scratch is not a challenge. I still would like to see how others do it and what can be done to make it look more professional. The Parts Express "Plastic Grill Kit" (260-346, 260-348, 260-349) are sort of expensive for 2 small cabinets and an overkill. They are better suited for larger floor standing model (cost wise).

Associated projects?

Are there any documented projects for this cabinet?
Asked by: DanielR
You may look at our Tech Talk forum for projects that may use or could use this cabinet. Other projects that use 0.5-0.6 cubic foot enclosures will also work whether they originally used this enclosure or not.

Any chance an 8 inch woofer would fit if baffle was doubled up?  Was thinking Peerless 830869 turned with the flat to the sides of the baffle

Asked by: chadam44
The flat sides of the Peerless woofer are just over 8". With the round over on the cabinet it will be a tight fit but it will technically work.

Front Baffle Cutout

Hi, Want to find out if the cutout for driver is included or up to customer to do. This kit would be great if cutout for driver (and port tube) is included, otherwise, it would still be a problem to complete the speaker build.
Asked by: kkapes
This knock-down box uses a solid baffle. The baffle is solid without cut outs for drivers or ports because no specific reference standard exists for driver or port cut-outs or insets. This knock-down box still saves the builder a lot of work. The builder doesn't need to buy and transporting 4x8 MDF panels to the work site and doesn't need a table saw and miter saw.If you are looking for a pre-engineered loudspeaker kit with all the holes and driver insets already cut, you might consider one of PE's complete loudspeaker kits.Jig saws, routers and hole saws can all be used to make driver or port cut outs.
