Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clean Sounding Amp for smaller projectsThis little amp is pretty good. I'm not technically savvy with the components like some are on here, but I do know sound when I hear it. This amp did very well as far as sound goes but I was expecting a little more volume from it; especially after reading some of these reviews. It left me thinking that I would need a better power supply like some have suggested. Either that or I buy an amp with more power. Other than that, it was a decent amp for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A decent little Class A/B AmpI purchased this amp just for fun. I use a 12 volt 3 amp power supply that came with the Lepai - LP-2020A+ T-Amp I ordered at the same time. It works good with alot of different audio equipment I tried it on. For the small price you really can't complain for the sound it produces. I tore mine apart to check the internal parts & found out that there is no thermal paste on the power amplifier chip! So if you plan on running 4 ohm speakers on this amp, make sure you tear it down & apply thermal paste to the chip or the amp will most likely die prematurely. This is a must because there is no heatsink mounted on the chip & the amplifier chassis is the only thing to help keep the amp cool. Other than that small problem, the amp gets plenty loud for music listening & doesn't produce much distortion at all at high volume with the custom 4-Ohm 2-way bookshelf speakers I built & use on this amp. Its well worth the price & you can't go wrong with the products Parts Express has to offer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sweet sounding little toy for nearfield listeningI threw this into my last order to break the $100 mark and get the free shipping. I'm running it off of Model PS-SP11111 12 VDC 3A AC Power Adapter. Didn't expect much, given my experience with similar toys, so I was very pleasantly surprised when I hooked it up to some "real" 8 Ohm speakers of average efficiency and heard some quite lovely sound at adequate levels from several favorite well-recorded CDs. This was in a nearfield setup, with the speakers about 4' apart and listening chair about 4' in front of them.Of course, the output is quite limited and the advertised spec (as is typical with such products) is sheer fantasy -- there's NO WAY a class AB amp, maybe 50% efficient, with a 36W power supply in can produce 2x18W out! I figure that with both channels running, I'm getting maybe 4 or 5W RMS with 8 or 9W peak. Probably less, because it plays cleanest with the volume control set at about 1:00. Past 3:00, distortion starts to become audible and bothersome, without much increase in SPL. Still, it's far less offensive than the UGLY distortion put out by certain little Class D amps (I have two different models, and won't mention the brand) when they are even slightly overdriven. Now, if you have a pair of ultra-efficient horn speakers like Klipsch or Cerwin Vega, this little amp could probably drive them loud enough to fill your house with sound. With normal speakers, you will be limited to nearfield listening. A desktop setup, with this amp and some decent small speakers, would beat the pants off typical amplified computer speakers. A gutsier power supply, say 12V x 5A, might squeeze a bit more out of it.The bass and treble controls seem to work as intended, with gain/cut in very small increments, which is good. Of course, it sounds best with both set for flat response. There seems to be a bit of built-in boost around 100Hz, which will get a bit more apparent bass out of the kind of small speakers it was obviously intended to drive. The shifting-color LED light behind the volume control seems to have been thrown in as a bit of whimsical weirdness by some engineer with a sense of humor. I doubt if it adds much to the cost.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SparkleAgain, for the money, and Parts Express service. Can't go wrong. Picked this little amp up to run a set of piezo tweeters (bird houses) to add a little more sparkle to the sound. Piezos are high passed at 3.5k in combo with this amp hit the mark. The bass, treble, and volume are way smoother than I expected. I have noticed after it sits for a few days it cracks quite loud when powered on, and a moment or two of static in the volume, but it clears right up. Got back in to audio and cabinet design / building after a 20 year laps. Just was not happy with the out of the box systems and components that have been coming down the line. So, back to basics, and that warmth in sound that has been missing. Two channels, three amps, 540 watts @ 6 ohm on tap. Life is good. Thanks to the good folks at Parts Express

Kinter MA-170 2-Channel Mini Amplifier Bass Treble RCA In 2x18W

I want to add a headphone mini-jack to the output, but the speaker negatives are NOT a common connection. A quick ohms measurement read prox. 17 ohms. Connecting the commons COULD damage the IC. I'm open to suggestions?

Asked by: captain video
I may have answered it myself by taking the unit apart and determining the circuitry.I soldered a pair of 10 mfd. non-polar caps to each common terminal (negative ones) I then soldered a 10 ohm resistor to the L & R speaker terminals, as the earphones I plan on using do not require a lot of power. I used 10 mfd. caps. as I don't need a lot of bass. Then unit seems very happy with this adaptation. I heard no odd noises. I used a small mini-phone jack that fit tight just above the speaker terminals and did not interfere with reassembly. I did not insulate the negative side of this jack, as there was no resistance found to the negative output. One might use larger caps but should be careful testing.

Can this amp be used with headphones? In other words, can you bridge the two negative output terminals together?

Asked by: jerbes
DO NOT BRIDGE THE OUTPUT TERMINALS TOGETHER! 17 ohms between them. I have posted my answer and method to do it with my same question

Asked by: daddydo
The power supplies in the related products section should be fine with this, currently we have #182-886 and #129-012 which will both work.

Hi can you mount this (the kinter amp) inside a closed box? the instructions say use in ventilated area. the amp does not seem to get warm. thanks

Asked by: spudsho
Ventilation is required for this amplifier but as long as the box will leave some air space around the amp you shouldn't have any problems.
