JBL 2226H 15" High-Power LF Driver 8 Ohm

The 2226H 15" low frequency transducer represents the results of JBL's latest engineering research in high power transducer design. For increased power handling while reducing power compression, a unique direct voice coil-to-air heat dissipation method called Vented Gap Cooling has been used. This process pumps air through the magnetic gap and directly over and around the voice coil to provide immediate heat transfer and reduction in operating temperature. Through the use of new computer-aided magnet optimization and analysis techniques comes a new weight-optimized Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) magnet structure, resulting in a reduction of overall driver weight and a significant reduction in harmonic distortion. This new magnet structure offers much of the weight advantage of rare earth magnet structures without their prohibitive cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous midrange and midbassI am using this driver in my HiFi setup as a midwoofer in a 2 way with horn loaded b&c DE250 compression driver with the well designed Wayne Parham 4 pi crossover. Very sophisticated midrange & midbass. Warm, musical and outstanding detail. Voices sound glorious. Not only is this durable pro equipement, it is definitely an audiophile's midwoofer when used with a well designed crossover and HF driver combination. Suspension is very stiff in the beginning. Low frequency seems noticably thin initially but instantly awakens with ~ 60 watts. Bewarned! 60 W and the 2226 sensitivity is an extremely loud earaching combination. It does loosen with time though and patience is amply rewarded with glorious sound! Very highly recommended if you are particular about midrange transparency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best sounding 15" driverThese blow away the JBL 2225 their previous pro sound speaker. The aluminum voice coil and new cone material is much lighter creating a quicker transient response. Also the voice coil gap is also wider on this vent gap cooling making them easier to recone. Reconing speakers has given me an opportunity to do direct sound comparisons with several manufacture's speakers and so far the JBL 2226 is my first choice for a 15 drivers for both sound quality and reliability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from None Better!!I use the JBL 4732 tops with 4715 subs and WHEW!! The only way you can beet it is to use the 4719X dual 18 inch subs. The 2226 low end drivers are powerful, rich with very musical un-muddied detail and have a very smooth DEEP bass. Very transparent as far as what you put into it is what you get out. I use the 2226 speaker in my old Yamaha 15 inch monitors and it really made a huge difference to me personally because I bring "everything" including all drums, kick, and bass guitar along with all vocals and guitars and now keys through my monitor. It sounds just like having a mains cabinet in front of you. I use only Crown MA 3600 and PT2 and PT3 amps for the monitors and 3600's for the mains. As long as you keep in the power range of the speaker system, they are fine. Personally, I don't know why I see so many on e-bay for re-cones and just guess that they are under powering the speakers and burning them out with square waves(distortion, over heating them from cranking the amps to high to get the desired volume). Yep, buy these!! Make sure your box design fairly suits the speaker design, or atleast use a good box!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JBL Is Just Plain Better Than Everyone ElseAll of JBL's components reproduce music in the most transparent way and these drivers are no exception. Other manufacturers may boast of higher power handling, better frequency range, or higher SPL, but that just doesn't matter, and probably isn't correct anyway. When you listen to a bass guitar making its runs, every note is balanced and transparent. If you are using other JBL components to complete a full frequency system, the same is true for all instruments. Saxes, horns, vocals, guitars are reproduced with total purity of sound. James B. was a pioneer that perfected the reproduction of music beyond all mortal competitive engineering. They cost a bit more, but a Rolls Royce costs more than a Hyundai. Pay the extra and own it for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If only one bass driver: the 2226 is the oneJBL pro produces the only drivers that combine fantastic tonal quality, dynamic and reliability. their know how is legendary especially when it comes to 15" drivers. At this price this is a steal to own professional quality large studio monitor components. The true quality of the 2226 expresses itself in the lower mid/upper bass register: it sets it apart from the competition as its definition is physically incredible and natural. Low midrange becomes real. I use them with JBL 2241 for enhanced subwoofer, 2446 and 2382 midrange and JBL tweeters in a 4 ways system. Electronic cross overs Rane AC23B, power Bryston, sources CD and LP Linn.

JBL 2226H 15" High-Power LF Driver 8 Ohm

Can it be used for home with focal 726v. Will connect it as B set speaker and run amp in A+B speaker mode? Amp is pioneer sa 9900

Asked by: Santanu
This is intended more for pro sound setups so it trades some bass extension for output. In general I would recommend driving this with its own amp instead of the B channel though. In most cases the B channel is just in parallel with the A channel so the impedance load would be much lower.

Can i use this as an car subwoofer? And is it only for indoor use or outside also.

Asked by: Robert66
This driver was engineered for stage applications. There are some high output systems that are using pro sound drivers, but it is not common since they do require large cabinets and are do not have as much excursion as a traditional car driver. That does allow for a higher efficiency though which is why some people are choosing drivers like this.,

Can this speaker be used for bass guitar

800 W amp @ 2 ohms
Asked by: Zalt
Yes. Speaker will drop low enough for low B string. Also high enough for upper mid range.
