I did try it, because you asked, and no one else responded. I wasn't expecting much, and I was underwhelmed regardless. I tried various surfaces for the exciter with varying degrees of lackluster performance, none of which would be considered acceptable under normal circumstances, even with the computer and media player cranked "up to eleven." There is output to be heard, but it is *extremely* low output. I suppose if one were designing a set of headphones proper, or wanted a speaker for exceptionally quiet listening, this may do the trick. In any kind of real-world application, I'd suggest using at least a modest amplifier.
