HiVi RT2H-A Planar Isodynamic Tweeter

Why Isodynamic? Contrary to a conventional dynamic driver, these transducers have a driving force distributed evenly over the whole area of their vibrating elements. The key feature of the RT2C-A and the RT2H-A is the membrane, which consists of Kapton film with a pattern of aluminum conductors. The conductors cover about 90% of the whole vibrating area. The membrane assembly is placed precisely between two rows of Neodymium and Barium Ferrite bar magnets. A larger membrane area provides higher power handling and substantially extended low-end cut-off frequency. The aluminum mounting flange, with flared waveguide, controls the frequency response and directivity of the tweeter. These tweeters are magnetically shielded and are extremely flat with a depth only 27mm including the mounting flange.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High HighsWell, I'm not sure if they need a break-in period to loosen them up, but thought they sounded initially a little more like a "super tweeter" to me. So far I can say they are very sensitive and detailed. There is plenty of energy in the highest ocitve. Horizontal dispersion was not as wide as I expected, but pretty good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well worth the money.Got these guys about a year ago on sale and have been playing around with them off and on in different systems. They have finally found a home in an open baffle paired up with a Silver Flute 8" woofer and some PE 15" buyouts. Crossed over 1st order at around 6KHZ or so using the Flute's natural rolloff sounds great, transparent and non-fatiguing. I recently switched back to a pair of monitors sporting HIVI f5's/ Vifa xt25's and the difference was astounding. There is a caveat or two, verticle dispersion is VERY limited, its a gigantic tweeter with a huge cutout but very narrow mounting flange.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW WHAT A PLANAR!Used these in a "MTM", 8" system and it would simply blow you away. Super smooth, extremely detailed and open. Use with high quality caps/ xover nothing much else can beat it, very good SPL as well. At the price of ONLY $50 each they are a steal for now!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing detail and excellent horizontal dispersionI designed this unit into a 3-way, 42" tower system and found it to have outstanding high frequency detail and transient response. The horizontal, off-axis, dispersion is very wide and uniform while the vertical dispersion is confined to a fairly narrow beam-width so positioning this tweeter near ear level is important. The measured frequency response and impedance is indeed very flat as claimed in the product litterature making for a straight forward crossover network design. I used a 3kHz, 2nd-order crossover with a 3dB boost above 10kHz. This is an outstanding tweeter that I look forward to using in future designs.

is a crossover point of 2.5khz at 12db/oct to safe for this planar?

What are the key differences between Isodynamic and Ribbon Tweets

For example; please compare the RT2H-A to the Beston RT002A.

A true ribbon has no voice coil etched in it. Most planer traducers use an etched shape to get enough impedance so as not to need a transformer. True ribbons are great when used with a transformer to match the low impedance , usually below 1 ohm to the amp. I believe you should use a dome unless you are using very expensive ribbons like the Raven or the Raal. Hope this helps Ralph
