HiVi RT1C-A Planar Isodynamic Tweeter

The vibrating element of a planer tweeter is almost weightless in comparison to a dome tweeter. The element consists of Kapton film with a pattern of aluminum conductors which is placed precisely between two Neodymium bar magnets. It provides an immediate and precise response to any transients in the original signal. These drivers are magnetically shielded and feature a linear phase response which provides time coherent reproduction resulting in accurate musical rhythm and imaging. Unlike other conventional tweeters and electrostatic speakers, the RT1C and RT2a have an extremely wide sound dispersion in the horizontal plane. At the same time, they have a well controlled sound dispersion in the vertical plane. This helps to avoid disturbing floor and ceiling reflections in a home environment thus enhancing clarity and imaging accuracy. The RT1C features a radiating area of 50 x 13mm and a round cast aluminum face plate. Although designed to be used with either the F5 or F6 bass/midrange drivers in a small 2-way system, it is also well suited for 3-way applications. Recommended second order crossover cut-off frequency - from 3kHz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome tweeters!Being a big fan of ribbons as I have Carver amazings that I love, I purchased these to replace the dome tweeters in my vintage jbl 4401 speakers. I am driving them with a 20 watt tube amp & tube preamp & buy is this ever a match made in heaven!! much more clarity & extended highs & the soundstage is awesome!! highy recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade in BIC Venturi DV62clr-sGot these as an upgrade for my BIC Venturi center that I am using for my front channels..... Did not order any x-over components because I wanted to take measurements. Well sitting around after surgery, I got bored and decided to just give them a little test run. After enlarging the holes and hooking to the stock x-over and listening for a few minutes....... These were good, REALLY good sounding. Went ahead and ran Audessey 32 xt on my Denon 2000x . It was unbelievable!These tweets hooked to the factory BIC x-overs were almost perfectly flat. We are talking a couple of places that needed a 2 db cut (3db cut @ 20k) The stock tweets were all over the place requiring 6-8 db boost over most of the range, then a 8+db cut between 9-16k and another +8 @ 18-20k. The factory tweets were just a mess, the most pleasant sounding I could find, but still a mess.Once the equalization program had been run, all three speakers were within 2 db of each other above about 3500 (without EQ). Simply amazing. What luck.Listening was exactly what you would expect. Vertical dispersion is on par with the 3/4" soft domes. Horizontal dispersion is phenomenal. Way broader than the soft dome. Every adjective that can be used for detail, impact and clarity, at the sametime being extremely smooth, applies here. Instead of having three distinct speakers up front, it became an enveloping soundstage. Far smoother and clearer than the soft dome.What is amazing is how a speaker that is as good "out of the box" as the BIC has been transformed by some damping, and new tweets

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performerI have these in a pair of MTMs that I keep in the garage. They are exposed to the elemements on occation, intil I can wheel them inside. Humidity is crazy in Baltimore.I have them matched up to HiVi aluminum mids and twin dayton QT-305s. It rocks. People laugh and say, "Your garage system sounds better than my living room"These tweeters do work quite well in a large soundstage, outside even.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PROVEN FOR 13 YEARSI built an DIY version of the Swans M1 using this driver with the F5. The combination is greater than the sum of it's parts. The M1 has been in production for 13 years, and at $850/pair demonstrates the quality and popularity of the two drivers. On its own the RT1C tweeter is very accurate and not always mentioned, very low distortion. For the price their isn't any other tweeter that comes close. When I built my speaker I crossed over at 4000 Hz, but I think you can be safe at 3500.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great performance if you wire it right!This is by far one of the best value tweeters you can buy! I love everything about them but they are made by HI-VI the makers of the Swan speakers. Ok I was reading where in another review that his tweeters were not as "loud" as they should be. Well it depends on the crossover frequency and type of crossover you are using whether 6,12,18,or 24. I contacted HI-VI and learned that these tweeters are marked (neg,pos) out of phase due to the fact that they recommend a 12db crossover which will put your signal 180 degrees out of phase so to correct phase issues they were marked out of phase which makes sense but a master speaker builder such as myself would appropriately change phase depending on my crossover im using. Anyway very thoughtful but could have stated it in the manual. So if these dont sound right try them out of phase. These are a great find and dont be afraid to play around with the wiring you wont hurt anything!

HiVi RT1C-A Planar Isodynamic Tweeter

Could these be used as replacements in a set of Infinity RS-6's with EMIT ribbon tweeters, circa early 80's? I'm more concerned about physical size.

Unfortunately we do not have a direct cross reference for this. These have been used as Emit replacements in the past but we do not know if this required any kind of cabinet modification.

Can ANYONE tell me the correct size hole to mount these tweeter? There is NO WAY it will go into an 89.5mm (3.53") hole. The minimum size needed is 4-1/25" for the gasket to seal. Is it necessary to take the driver apart? Please include instructions.

This tweeter requires a rectangular cutout that needs to be 3" wide and 3-5/8" high, with rounded corners. The radius of the corners are roughly 3/8".
