HiVi M8N 8" Aluminum/Magnesium Woofer

The HiVi M8N has been optimized for extended and dynamic bass reproduction in vented systems. The clarity and accuracy provided by the unique one-piece aluminum/magnesium cone is remarkable. This high rigidity diaphragm accurately reproduces transient attacks, contributing to a naturally dynamic and articulate sonic character in the bass and midbass regions. A high temperature Kapton voice coil, air transparent spider, and 1-3/8" voice coil provide good power handling. This woofer can be used to good effect in a medium sized 2-way system or as a woofer in a 3-way system. Recommended crossover upper frequency region for a 2-way system design is 1-2 kHz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sound, small priceI just installed these in my front car doors. Oh my!!!! They are better than much more expensive car speakers. I was told about these by a friend. You will not be sorry with this buy. I worked professional as a car audio installer in my younger years

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound, Price and Looks!I bought (2) of the HiVi M8N 8" woofers to replace the new but lacking 8 inch woofers in some brand new bookshelf speakers by Mono-Price. I also replaced the Mid-range with the HiVi M4N 4" mid-range (shielded) for the same reason. WOW! What a difference! The last step will be to replace the tweeters. i highly recommend these for replacing stock run of the mill speakers for enhanced sound reproduction and clarity as well as increasing RMS power handling capabilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so very good.Just got done making a pair of 1 cu. ft. sealed enclosures to use along with my Magnepan MMG's. The MMG's are known for being difficult to pair up with external woofers, but these are working out great! I am powering them with the Dayton 100  watt (at 4 ohms) plate amp. Still working with the crossover point but right now I am using 100 hertz 12db in line filters with the MMG's and I think I can go higher. Just ordered the 150 hertz version to try.... At any rate, this combination will really tell you if a recording is done well or not. The Hi Vi drivers are reallly good. I am a bass player and am very particular on the way bass is presented in a recording. If it is done well the low end is tight and thick at the same time. If the recording is mushy, well then you will get mush. Bottom line is that these things are accurate and will give you what you put into it.... mush in, mush out; gold in gold out. Especially now that they are $34...It's a no brainer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent low-end performance in the right enclosureThe M8N had the right aesthetic look for my project, but was it really suitable? WinISD indicated that two drivers and a roughly 95L (3.3 cubic foot) box with a 4" dia x 8" long port would produce a lower F3 of 30-35Hz, so I went ahead and ordered four. The results are fantastic. With appropriate box bracing and damping, these produce tight and well-defined bass from their bottom end all the way to my 375Hz crossover point. The only thing they need is a much stiffer frame; the stamped steel is too soft for a driver of this size and quality and the screw-mounting holes are pressed at inconsistent depths. Still, a pretty good buy for this price range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing valueAmazing value for the cost. Using this with my ESL speakers from 250 Hz down to 40 Hz subwoofer crossover. Much better sound than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4-way Active SpeakerI used 2 of these in 2.7 Cu ft sealed tower with a mini-dsp active filter crossed at 800 Hz. Sound quality is too good and I am happy with my choice.

HiVi M8N 8" Aluminum/Magnesium Woofer

Two questions... What is the Le of this driver?  Do I need a Zobel Circuit for this driver.  Using in conjunction with 2 Hivi B3N and a Dayton ND16FA-6 (unless better suggestion can be made.  2nd order reverse polarity 500/5000.  Thnx

Asked by: Cowboyinthejungle
The Le of this driver is 1.383 mH, so a Zobel may be required. With a crossover at 500 Hz the peak will not be very audible, but if you wanted to try it I would recommend a cap value of 33 uF and a resistor that is 6.2 ohm.

I'm trying to replace a woofer in a Kenwood KSC-WA801 which is an car all in one powered subwoofer It's 8" and the amp is aprox 100w not sure of ohms. The kenwood sub has two sets of +/- connections, I only see one on this item, does it have another set?

Asked by: Oondivah
What you have is a dual voice coil woofer, this Hi-Vi only has a single voice coil. I would recommend checking out the Dayton in the link below as a nice DVC option.

Would this be a good replacement for a Jamo 20316?

These are two completely different woofers so it would be best to know what type enclosure this will be used in. Please contact our tech support at 800-338-0531 x1 or for more information.

Will this driver perform well in a 1.11cu ft. cabinet tuned to 42 hz with a 3 x 7.5in port.

Asked by: TSSmith
It will work although there is a bit of a natural rise in the response around 50 Hz. everything below tuning will drop significantly so there will be a good amount of "punch", just not much low end.

what amp would you recommend if I should run 4 x HIVI M8N as a sub. dimensions Height: 22cm Depth: 41cm Height: 130cm. vented box.

Asked by: lüsch
Four of these will require no more than 200 watts at 8 ohms to reach their full potential.

HiVi m8n

Greetings to all.One question, I want to know what is the behavior of the speaker to a moderate listening volume, the level of ambient music. Is there evidence of good sound?, is it nice?. I have an amplifier Nad C316 BEE.Thank you.Jaime.
Asked by: jaimesr
This speaker is well designed and will be smooth acrossthe power range. I think it is a perfect modest power 2 way or 3 way vented woofer.
