HiVi F8 8" Bass/Midrange

The HiVi F8 woofer utilizes a Kevlar and paper composite cone that has lower weight, higher rigidity, and an improved damping factor. The back of the cone is hand coated with damping compound to further maximize performance stability and control of resonances. Midrange clarity and tonal balance are remarkable. The F8 has been optimized for dynamic low bass reproduction in compact or medium vented enclosures. The driver employs a vented Kapton voice coil former and flat spider to avoid air compression and ensure maximum power handling. A massive aluminum die-cast basket has been developed to minimize structural resonances, and a shielded magnet structure enables the F8 to be incorporated easily into audio/video speaker applications. The F8 has an exceptionally smooth frequency response (within +/-1.7 dB tolerance in 70-3,000 Hz range, measured on an IEC baffle), which helps make the driver a perfect choice for high resolution 2-way or 3-way systems. Recommended crossover frequency for a two-way system design is 1.8-2.2 kHz.

HiVi F8 8" Bass/Midrange
HiVi F8 8" Bass/Midrange is rated 4.4667 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice speakers but specs listed wrongLike the sound but took off a star cause the specs are listed incorrectly. Says it needs a 7.156" baffle cut out but it's more like 7.44". I bought these to replace the 8" speakers in a set of Advent Bookshelf speakers from the early 90's. The cut out was 7.25" so I thought it would be a drop in replacement but ended up having to dremel the holes. The sound quality is good considering the Advent's are a closed cabinet with a larger inside space then they list here as optimum. That being said, I'm not an expert on this kind of thing and the speakers are in my work office so I do not get to crank them very often. They are being driven by a very old Technics amp getting signals from a cheap PC audio card and I play a lot of MP3 files from unknown origin and dubious quality. But when all of the horrible conditions are taken into account, I find they output a very pleasing sound. Probably as close to the original Advents as I could have hoped for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awe StruckFor an 8" speaker the actual cone size is just 6", however that massive flange is nice looking , sturdy and has 12 holes in it for very secure mounting. I find the bumble bee yellow cone a little annoying, most of HiVi's speakers are black or earth tone colors and at 48 the bling doesn't do much for me #my kids love it#. The connectors are solder able #becoming a rare thing# and shielding is a nice addition to the features of this driver.Performance is outstanding!!! I have been listening to a pair of Marantz LS-17s for the last 20 years that I really didn't think could be surpassed. I put two F8s in a 3CuFt ported box tuned to 35Hz with a HiVi DMN-A 2" dome midrange and a Morel MDT29 1 1/8" dome tweeter #tri-amped#. I mocked up originally in a 1.7CuFt ported with just one F8 and found it lacking in SPL, so I ordered two more and went back to box building. Presently I'm crossed @ 1200Hz 12db per octave and 4500Hz 6db per octave using a Yamaha D2040 crossover. The f8s are hooked up in series @4Ohm and driven by an Adcom GFA-555se 200w power amp. The two F8s are tighter on the low end and still produce realistic sound stage that my old 15 inch Marantz speakers can't compete with. I'm not an expert but I have a lot of friends with seriously expensive equipment that listen to these speakers and use naughty expletives when I tell them what I spent. For most, the F8s low end would be adequate, but I am a bluegrass listener and stand up bass needed a little more emphases, so I added a pair of Dayton 8" 80w DVC Subs with passive radiators in 2.5CuFt boxes driven individually by Dayton APA150s below 80Hz.Everyone without exception that has listened has been awe struck!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great driver!Installed in a .8cuft enclosure with a flared 2.5" rear mounted port. Used the RT11 iso-planer tweeter crossed over @ 2kHz. Incredible detail from both drivers with in-your-face bass response. YES! This woofer needs a ported enclosure. Had to tune/trim the port length twice to get the right sound out. (calculators are not always right on) When it is right, you'll know it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loud and clearUsed these to replace the woofers in a JBL three way ported enclosure. Very pleased with them.

HiVi F8 8" Bass/Midrange

what ported box could be used to get an f3 of 38 hz. Thank J.R.

Asked by: Dallas JR
I would recommend a volume of 1.1 cubic feet with a 2-1/2" diameter, 6" long port for a tuning frequency and F3 of 38 Hz.

Would an 825 Hz xo using LR2 work for this SPKR in a sealed cabinet?

There is nothing wrong with that crossover point with this driver.

How do they sound in sealed cabinets? I'm interested in Q=.777 using the golden ratio. (0.5 cubic feet)

Asked by: Pioneer1
I cannot vouch for the sound quality of this particular driver but in a sealed enclosure with a .707 alignment you can expect useable output down to the mid 40's in room.
