HiVi B1S 1" Shielded Aluminum Mid/Tweeter
HiVi B1S 1" Shielded Aluminum Mid/Tweeter is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome but a little difficult to work withI ordered 4 of these at first, however like the other reviews said the terminals will melt right out of the plastic when soldering. I only ended up losing one driver and gluing a terminal back in place for another but I would definitely recommend prepping the terminals for soldering as much as possible to prevent prolonged exposure to heat. Now for the good part, I was able to get these to work in a simple 5 volt powered arrangement with a cheap 3 watt ebay amp, At first I wanted these for an open baffle tweeter, since the high end rear radiation can be just as important for sound stage as the mids and lows, they were going to be crossed over at around 1.5-2kHz, but I ended up using 4 paper cone tweets for that project. so I experimented with htese in cardboard enclosures for a bit, first open baffle witch sounded ok, but quite hollow, definitely distortion free, but also not musical at all. Larger boxes didn't seem to make much or a difference in sound than medium boxes. I experimented with drilling different depth of holes with forstner bits in the end grain of 4x4 lumber from menards which definitely made the sound fuller and added a bit of what was missing from the cardboard and open baffle versions but also added a bit of distortion. I stumbled upon a victory when I accidentally started on a piece of wood with a 1 1/2 inch forstner bit, halfway through I realized it looked a little big, so I finished the rest of the way with the 1 1/4 inch this driver fits in, glued another board over the back and stuffed the hole with polyfill and a freshly soldered b1s and the music seemed to fit perfectly. The best sound seems to come from mahogany, and I'm listening to some immediate music on a finished version of that speaker while I'm writing this very review. While it doesn't have the low end of a larger speaker, for a fun, musical, and portable sound project these work amazingly well once you get the finesse of assembling them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They are mid-tweetersI was bored and decided I wanted some small speakers to play with. When they were ordered, I thought they were 3 watts RMS (thats what they said on the catalog) but they were 1 watt RMS.I had this HMDX portable stereo speaker, took the speakers out of it and put it in this little cardboard box, with a LEGO port, and I was really surprized at the low end output for these 1" speakers. They are limited and are a bit heavy on trebble, but hey, I wasn't expecting that much from them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from cool....but fragile and a little inefficentbe careful with this one as there is no spider only the surround is supporting the dome/coil assembly, cool concept but you need to use these in multiples as one is not going to be that loud, the power handling is also low so dont connect it to a huge amplifier and crank it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I disagreeThis is a nice little driver you just have to be careful with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from too hard to work withits an ok preformer but the terminals are way to delicate for sodering

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to install, and FRAGILE...Plastic frame can crack, and will melt during soldering. Be careful, and don't prolong heat exposure, as the terminals will pull out of the plastic.Center-neo magnet is glued in place, and a good hard jolt *can* dislodge it, and clamp the VC in place, eliminating functionality.Terminals are close to mounting holes, won't accept female disconnects, and cannot accept larger than 20AWG wire due to being flat on the plastic cup.Mounting holes are close to cutout, and require very small screws to install. I Dremeled out mine to .125" diameter, and then found screws I was able to use. They require a chamber be made.I've used them, broken them, and dropped a couple. They sound good above 3.5K as tweeters, but spl is minimal.
