The Reference series of cartridges are designed for maximum fidelity using machined Australian Jarrah wood housings. A considerable tip mass reduction of 10% over the Prestige series results in a frequency response to 60 kHz and beyond, and tracking forces from 1-2 grams. Grado's Reference Series cartridges are considered by experts to be the reference standard with regards to audiophile performance.
The Sonata1 uses a four-piece OTL (optimized transmission line) cantilever technology and dissimilar materials to minimize resonances. Ultra-high purity, long crystal, oxygen-free (UHPLC) wire in the coils maintain signal integrity, as does Grado's specially designed, nude elliptical diamond mounted in a brass bushing.
Each Grado Sonata1 phono cartridge is hand-made in Brooklyn, New York and tested for frequency response, channel balance, phase linearity, inductance, and resistance. All Sonata1 cartridges feature user-replaceable stylii.
