Grado Prestige Series Green1 Turntable Phono Cartridge

The Prestige series of cartridges are designed for high output and excellent stability under severe use. A considerable tip mass reduction results in a frequency response to 50 kHz and beyond, and tracking forces from 1-2 grams. Grado's Prestige Series cartridges are acclaimed by experts as virtually the finest pickups in the world at their price.

Grado's redesigned Green1 phono cartridges have had their coil design reconfigured, and the effective moving mass of their generating system has been reduced by 17%. The Green1 uses a three-piece OTL (optimized transmission line) cantilever technology, standard oxygen free wire in the coils, and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted in a brass bushing.

Each Grado Green1 phono cartridge is hand-made in Brooklyn, New York and tested for frequency response, channel balance, phase linearity, inductance, and resistance—only 15% of the Black1 cartridges meet the higher quality standards necessary to become a Green1. All Green1 cartridges feature user-replaceable stylii.

Grado Prestige Series Green1 Turntable Phono Cartridge
Grado Prestige Series Green1 Turntable Phono Cartridge is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best cartridges for the money.I just replaced my Audio Technica AT-440MLa because of brightness and lack of bass. My new Grado Prestige Green is truly amazing to produce very detailed and balanced sound to my Denon 300F automatic turntable. With the removable shell, it's easy to install, but this cartridge must be a the correct position in the shell to preform correctly, and there's plenty of inexpensive tools to help you correct any errors. I just finished playing "Trouble Will Find" from The National and the bass was wall shaking. The bass in all of my albums are better than I remember.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to mount and not very good soundI bought this reading lots of praise from other Grado owners and one personal recommendation from a friend who uses them. I have also read a few not so happy reviews also. I was not impressed at all by this cartridge. It was very difficult to mount and it sounded pretty bad unless it was in perfect alignment. When I did get it just right it still was not good, bass was muffled as was the highs. I had a Santon L720 and a Audio Technica 11E and they both blew it out of the water in comparison, and those are just middle of the road carts. I had everything mounted on separate headshells so I could compare all 3 at once. I tried this on both of my turntables, a Techinics SL-Q3 and a Technics SLQ-212. Of course that could have something to do with it, Grado has been in business forever and maybe the cart just didn't match to the turn tables? I wanted to make this work and I wanted to have a Grado, I love buying stuff made her in the US but I just could not justify it so I sent it back. PE refunded my money with no questions asked. A great company that I will continue to do business with!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Performance For Under $100 CartridgeI have a 35 year old Kenwood KD-2070 turntable with a medium mass tonearm that I use with the Grado Prestige Green 1. If you are going to spend under $100 this is about as good as it gets. It does everything well, tracks well, digs out detail well, has a well balanced sound with more emphasis on the mid-range. The sound is clean and involving. Sound staging is deep and wide. LPs sound like high-end CD reproduction. It tracks at just 1.5 grams. The Grado Green 1 has no serious weaknesses. It's performance bests the Shure M97xe IMHO. If you want something significantly better you would need to spend $200+. The only down side is that it takes about 100 hours of break-in time before it peaks. Recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than ortofonReplaced an ortofon om10 cartidge on Yamaha yp-d6 turntable. The Grado has great bass, wonderful clarity, and superior tracking. A good match for older, medium mass s-shaped tonearms.

Asked by: Robert of Portland
Unfortunately, we do not have equipment here to test this, however, there is a good deal of anecdotal testimony from Grado customers indicating that this product does, indeed, do a fine job with CD-4 vinyl recordings.
