Goldwood GW-8004 8" Coaxial Speaker
Goldwood GW-8004 8" Coaxial Speaker is rated 4.4286 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from well designedContacted the manufacturer of my expensive stone landscape speakers to replace speaker with " lifetime replacement drivers". I was told I had the privilege of paying 180.00 ea for them!! Purchased yours, exactly the same except yours has a larger magnet. Thanks for getting me back in business for a fraction of their price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from punchy soundI found the overall diameter is smaller than my previous 8" speaker I had it replace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best bang for the buckI built my first cabinet using this driver and one of PE recommendations for box size and venting. I used a 1.6 cubic foot box with a 5" long 3" diameter flared port. These sound better than my $400 pair of Paradigms. Can't wait to plan a more elaborate speaker system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice 8" CoaxialI built a custom enclousure for this coaxial and the sound is awesome for a 35 watt RMS 8" Coaxial i bought at least 3 dozen i will keep buying them untill goldwood goe's out of buisness a great product for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great productUsed as replacement ceiling speakers in customer home and found bass enhanced greatly as well as cleaner, crisper highs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cursury evaluation87 dB W/M is rather low. look at a Altec 409B. that low sens costs$ for power amplifier output. But then power amps are cheaper now, i guess. Still havn't figured out how they get 1000 watts from 12VDc in a amp with virtually no heatsink and 16 Ga wireing!!

Does this speaker need an external crossover network?

Asked by: Duncan
Not intended for a crossover. The tweeter is wired thru the woofer.

Could I put 4 of these in a series-parallel to get 8ohms?

I was thinking of buying multiples of these and having 4 surrounds for each rear surround channel. Driven by 115 watts RMS per 4 drivers.
Asked by: eikm
you got it, take two, wire in parallel. take the next two, wire in parallel. then run +- cables to each set of pairs. should achieve 8 ohm nominal, but check resistance anyway with a multimeter to be sure

where are the driver specs?

Neither your website or my package for these speakers have the woofer specs. How would one know how to design a proper vented cabinet without the driver specs?
Asked by: jalang63
The manufacturer lists the specifications as:Specifications: * Power handling: 35 watts RMS * VCdia: 1" * Le: .68 mH * Impedance: 8 ohms * Re: 7.6 ohms * Frequency range: 35-20,000 Hz * Fs: 51.1 Hz * SPL: 87 dB 1W/1m * Vas: 0.985 cu. ft. * Qms: 3.77 * Qes: 1.2 * Qts: 0.91.The optimum vented enclosure is quite large due to the Qts. I show that it would need to be 5.325 cubic feet and use two 3" diameter ports that are two inches long (I've listed a port below that you could cut to the correct length). This would create a cabinet that is tuned to 37 Hz, which is also close to what the F3 would be. I would list the power handling of this configuration at 20 watts RMS due to Xmax. Maximum output would be around 103 dB.

how would I build a vented box for this speaker to get the best overall response.

I/ve checked some speaker box calculators and find it hard to believe that I need a 3 foot tall box.
Asked by: jalang63
Please see the previous question and answer for the optimum vented box size.
