Goldwood GW-8004 8" Coaxial Speaker
Goldwood GW-8004 8" Coaxial Speaker is rated 4.2222 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well I DID like these initiallyI purchased a pair of these Goldwood GW-8004 back in September of 2014. I initially really liked the sound of these coax 8's, although the tweeter wasn't quite bright enough for my tastes. The low end is actually pretty good in the enclosures I built for them (I forget the volume), so overall sound was well suited for a pair of main speakers that would see moderate volume at most.So that's the good....now the bad.1. I noticed when screwing the speakers into the cabinet that the screws would grab the rubber surround overlap that hangs out into the fastening holes (basically the rubber surround covers over half of the screw hole). So be careful when mounting these, you could possibly damage the surrounds by twisting them up with the mounting screw.2. Just about an hour ago, while listening at a moderate level, I noticed a buzzing sound emitting from one of the speakers. When I was trying to figure out what was contacting the woofer cone, I also noticed the tweeter wasn't working anymore. Turns out that one of the leads going to the tweeter had detached and was bouncing off the woofer. It might take some creative soldering and removal of the tweeter from the post to fix this, but I'm really starting to wonder about the longevity of these speakers now. These are in our living room and actually get very little use, so they probably have less than 10 hours of total listening time.Maybe I was the lucky one that got a badly soldered connection (yeah, I'm usually that guy that get's the one bad example). Hopefully no one else has this problem, because I really like coaxial speakers like this and would like to see more similar options.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GW-8004 8" Coaxial speaker is perfect for the jobAs replacements for rear deck speakers in a 1998 Volvo S70 sedan, these coaxial Goldwood speakers are ideal. In terms of audio quality, they replicated the sound of the original speakers and added tight, well-defined low bass. Higher frequencies were less important in this installation, since other speakers in the car handled the mid-range and tweeter functions, but were definitely acceptable. I had looked extensively for replacement speakers. I picked Goldwood since their 8" models matched the original speakers in physical dimensions, mounting holes, frequency range and impedance. I found the Goldwood speakers to be less sensitive, so it was necessary to shade the fader volume on the other speakers in order to compensate.. Connecting the speakers was a breeze: I simply tinned the speaker leads and jammed them into the existing Volvo connector for a very solid fit. Incidentally, there are a number of other companies that sell speakers without a brand name but show "8004" in their model numbers. By comparing their specifications and their photos to pictures in the Goldwood website, they all appear to be the GW-8004 Goldwood speaker. I picked Goldwood as my supplier because they have honest pricing and a responsive support staff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well designedContacted the manufacturer of my expensive stone landscape speakers to replace speaker with " lifetime replacement drivers". I was told I had the privilege of paying 180.00 ea for them!! Purchased yours, exactly the same except yours has a larger magnet. Thanks for getting me back in business for a fraction of their price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from punchy soundI found the overall diameter is smaller than my previous 8" speaker I had it replace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best bang for the buckI built my first cabinet using this driver and one of PE recommendations for box size and venting. I used a 1.6 cubic foot box with a 5" long 3" diameter flared port. These sound better than my $400 pair of Paradigms. Can't wait to plan a more elaborate speaker system.

Goldwood GW-8004 8" Coaxial Speaker

What would create better bass response for 2 of these in a space restricted box, a port or a passive radiator

Asked by: Mosbro18
The term "better" is relative. A sealed box will provide a smoother response, while a ported box will provide a bit of a natural bass boost. I usually recommend using a sealed box for these drivers, anything from 0.5-1 cubic foot will work well.

Seems like these would be good as open baffle drivers. Anybody tried that? Also seem like a good substitute for an expensive point source. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. Looking at the 8" Visatrons also for open baffles.

Asked by: ibroke
These would work well in an OB application reaching into the low 50's pretty easily. I have not used them for this however, so I could not comment on the sound. They have been quite popular for our customers for numerous applications.

If I placed these in a cabinet with two other 15" woofers totalling 1000W RMS, how many of these should I put inside to match the output? for use outside for smaller parties and such.

im looking into buying a few of these for ht use and was wondering what box dimensions would you recomend using 3/4 inch mdf? or if these would be any good for ht use?

Asked by: ernj
These will work well for HT use. Assuming there will be a separate powered subwoofer, these will work well in anything from 1.0-2.4 cubic feet sealed.
