Rated 5 out of 5 by from replacement midrange for a three way cabI just got these in my home made three way cab's , The reason I chose these was because of the power they claim to handle , and so far so good they work great as a midrange hook up to a crossover . They have added to the mid-lows and brighten up the mid's and highs. Now I don't need to worry about how much power I throw at my speakers cause I know they can handle it. Now I have made some truly Loud Speakers. I don't have any new photos to share at this time , but I may revise this post at a later date with photos

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need minor surgeryI purchased two of these for some extension PA speakers for a church application. I selected them because of the reasonable price combined with the high power rating. They sound great in this application, in shop built 12" x 12" enclosures.Installation was a hassle, since the rubber suspension between the cone and the frame had not been trimmed in the screw holes, and a screw wrapped the rubber, distorting the suspension. Fixing this oversight requires some very delicate surgery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad speakerI bought this speaker to be used as a mid woofer. I needed a speaker with a substantial range, this one fit the bill. I did have one slight problem, when installing one of the speakers, I was putting the screws in ever so carefully and I ended up getting the woofer surround caught in with the screw and it twisted the side to shreds. It was my fault, so I ordered another one. Be mindful when installing these, that the rubber may cover the screw holes somewhat and that was part of my problem. All in all they sound fine and balance out my speaker cabinets.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from NOT NEARLY FULL RANGE AS ADVERTISED. VERY DISAPPOINTINGThese are in a ported cabinet for extension speakers. Straight feed from high quality receiver. Usually set on direct pass to avoid equalizer. They are in no way full range speakers. Not even close. They are rolled off rather severely to the point where they are quite clearly dull. Even if listened to directly on axis, high freq energy is very, very lacking. I seriously considered taking apart the cabinets and sending them back, but I simply do not want the hassle. Listening to anything but background/elevator music is distinctly unsatisfying and almost unpleasant. This is a more disappointing speaker, and I urge great caution when looking at the "full range" capability. It has a nice low end, but it sorely needs a top end (I would probably drop in a cheap dome, but I don't want the complexity). I wish I would have known how rolled off this thing is. The usual TV speaker is more satisfying up top.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great replacement speakerI took a shot with a hi fi speaker for an acoustic guitar amp because most of the frequencies I want in my acoustic sound match up well with a standard hi fi speaker. I blew a factory speaker and decided to try this one. My amp has 2x8's and I like the Goldwood better than the amps factory speakers. Keep in mind that there is a break in time for most speakers and these are no exception it took about 10 hours of high volume use before they started to loosen up and smooth out, it will take much longer to break them in if you run at low volume. Don't get me wrong they sounded ok right out of the box but the more you use them the wider your smile gets. For my application I don't think I could have found a better value than the Goldwood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I wouldn't quite call this full rangeI slapped two of these in a set of well-made factory cabinets from a famous British monitor maker, roughly 1.75 cu ft internal each. In these cabinets, the 8003s have satisfying, solid bass with good resolution of detail. Unfortunately, they are unacceptably lacking in upper mids and highs-- you can tell you're listening to more than "just a woofer w/o the crossover," but only barely. The problem gets far worse if you're even the slightest bit off-axis from the whizzer cone; there's virtually no dispersion. I also find these speakers to be inefficient-- definitely harder to move than the 87dB printed spec would suggest. In short, don't buy these thinking they will do most of the job of a "known player" connoisseur's full-ranger for a fraction of the price. They are a totally different genre of speaker... they'd be good for a cheap, fun system, but I cannot recommend them at all for budget formal (or even business casual) hi-fi. I am kind of amazed that people are stuffing these into Voigt pipes and are happy with them.

Would these be good for an open baffle system as the one driver?

Asked by: Drumlator
These will work well for an open baffle application and probably reach 60-80 Hz relatively well. As for the upper end, this will be subjective. A super tweeter may be required for the top octave but that depends on personal taste.

Would these be good for mids only?

I have some Fisher boxes from 1968. All speakers in them are far too gone to use. Already have the 15" woofers, just need to fill in the 8" mid. The mids in them now are sealed backs. Don't know if that's relavent
Asked by: datguy
You will want to replace a sealed back mid with something that is sealed unless you can create a chamber behind it using a small enclosure. This Goldwood will work if you can do this, otherwise I would recommend something like the Pyle PDMR8 midrange.

on the catalog page the power handling is listed as 50w/80w, but on the PE page it says 130/260 (both for the gw-8003/8). What is correct?

Asked by: Asod001
We are looking into getting the most up to date specs from the manufacture. As of now (10/10/2012), the box for this item directly from Goldwood claims max power handling is 130 watts with no RMS listed. We will update the site within a couple days with accurate information.
