Rated 5 out of 5 by from Guitar Cab application ReviewAs a guitar/bass amp and cab builder speakers are very important to the final outcome of ANYTHING I design. I'm avid user of all the usual guitar and bass speakers and very familiar with the nuances each product offers and produces. That being said, I am used to shelling out some cash for those drivers. I had a few extra bucks lying around and bought these little guys on a whim. I wasn't expecting much. Honestly. Upon taking these dudes out of the box I immediately noticed the quality far surpassed my expectations. Next I put them into one of my two twelve cabs. The sound from these speakers is just incredible. Jaw dropping for guitar. My Marshall 1959 "Plexi" loves them. Fender AA-864 bassman loves them. The mid's rip through a band mix and the lows hit you right in the chest. What a gem! With a properly designed cab these will hold their own against any guitar speaker I have ever used. Truly eye opening. I'm replacing my usual stock speakers. These are the jam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE JACK PARRISH BAND REVIEWWell.... To start off with, Excellent speaker for P.A. and for guitar amp. Put in a PV Pacer 100 I was rebuilding cause the speaker it had was blown and for the heck of it I put the bass guitar through it and it sounded really good, also ran my mp3 through it and realized that this speaker works very well for P.A.. Ordered two more for a P.A. project that I'm working on. Thumbs UP on Parts Express for everything. Jack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Didn't expect much for the priceOriginally planned on a 12" Cannabis Rex for my Leslie 16(same thing as Fender Vibratone) but discovered this little gem while shopping for components to build a foot pedal controller and crossover that was missing when I bought it. I couldn't use the speaker that came in it due to the fact that it was way too big for the cabinet and the previous owner had to cut a hole in the back panel for it to protrude. When ordering my other parts I went ahead and added a Goldwood 12" to my order. I figured for the price even if it was junk I wouldn't be out much. Well the Leslie project is all done now and looks like brand new. It sound great. I've got a hunch it sounds as good as it did back in 1968(had 10" speaker when new) when it came off the assembly line. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised how good this low buck speaker could sound. It breaks up nicely using a Blues Junior to power the cabinet. I saved enough dough to buy 4 more if only I had a use for them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Acoustic, extention speaker.I was sceptical but decided to gamble on this speaker for an Acoustic Guitar extention cabinet. The tech. dept. guys answered my questions and I ordered it.Meanwhile, I start trying to figure out cabinet size and checked all the speaker cabinet calculation guides I could find on line. Two weeks of racking my brain and coming up with cabinet recommendations the size of refridgerators, I finally find a guide for "GUITAR" speakers. I had been reading stuff for stereos and they're not the same at all. Guitar cabinets are whatever you need them to be. So here's what I built.I used 3/4 birch plywood. on all 6 sides. Pine is good for Electric Guitar cabs with a ply baffle but birch ply wont change the sound of your guitar/amp. The baffle is 20x18 in. and the cab. is 12 inches deep. The spec. sheet said "closed cabinet" but I had my amp all the way up to get to the volume I normally use and the sound got metalic and muddled. It was bad.Sooo, I removed the back and cut the thing in half horizontally, creating a 1 1/2 in wide vent. Now it sounds great.I put the GW1238 right in the center of the baffle and added a GT25 tweeter in the upper corner. Ask a tech. for the capacitor you'll need and wire them in series. The capacitor attaches to the positive lead on the tweeter. The sound fills the entire room.I finished the plywood with a water based stain and polycrylic semi gloss for protection. Follow the directionsI hope this helps someone out. It really is a good speaker choice.

Goldwood GW-1238/PA 12" PA / Musical Instrument Speaker

Which terminal is the + on these? The are not marked.

I just bought 2 of these speakers and neither terminal is marked
Asked by: Maddog
If you wire both the same, then it doesn't matter. This is a phasing issue. Assume face down, terminals nearest you. The (+) terminal is on the right and wire both the same.

Overall Sound

Since I wish to replace the sub-standard speakers in both of my Crate FW412A/B Guitar Speaker Cabs, how do the GW1238's overall sound and performance compare to popular name brand guitar speakers such as Eminence, Celestion, Jensen, GWS, etc...?I use a Carvin MTS3200 100W All-Tube Head as the main driver, with 2 Crate FW120H's just for fun. Many Thx.
Asked by: Zerep11
The Goldwood GW-1238 is very comparible with Eminance speakers costing significantly more. Although I am not totally sure, I think your Crate amp was less than an Eminence OEM when it was manufactured. So the Goldwood GW would actually be an improvement over the original speaker. The Goldwood's paper cone and ribbed surround is my preference for guitar amps because it retains timber and has a somewhat warmer tone than other surrounds and more rigid cones.I have relied on Goldwood for replacing a pair of 15" speakers in an older pair of wedge stage monitors. I didn't need much because these were to be extra and fill in. When I reloaded them with the Goldwoods the sounded so great I now use them more than the newer Yamaha monitors I have.I have a lead guitar screaming friend who purchased a crate (Marshall type 4- 12" 1/2 stack with blown speakers for $ 100.00. He loaded it with 4 of these speakers and it a real screamer.I would suggest you trust Goldwood for your replacement and enjoy.Good Luck
